Zuckerberg Responds to Calls to Break Up Facebook

On Monday, Zuckerberg hit back at Hughes’ call to break up Facebook. Zuckerberg argued that Facebook’s success has been predicated on its ability to control its destiny.

If what you care about is democracy and elections, then you want a company like us to invest billions of dollars a year, like we are, in building up really advanced tools to fight election interference.

Our budget for safety this year is bigger than the whole revenue of our company was when we went public earlier this decade. A lot of that is because we’ve been able to build a successful business that can now support that.

==Ex-FBI General Counsel James Baker: DOJ Inspector General Will Uncover ‘Mistakes’ in FISA Probe=

“The inspector general is looking at everything we did,” Baker told CNN, per the Washington Examiner. “If the IG usually finds mistakes that we made, so I expect him to find mistakes this time.”

“They’re coming in after the fact to look at what we did,” Baker continued, adding that during the probe the bureau was “trying to do it in real time and having the pressure to deal with these threats as they were coming.”

He later said he felt “confident in the judgments that I made at the time based on the information that I had available to me,” before conceding, “I’m sure they will find things that I didn’t know at the time and maybe that others didn’t know at the time.”

Small Business Optimism Jumped Higher in April

National Federation of Independent Business Small Business Optimism Index rose to 103.5 last month, the highest level of the year. Economists had expected a rise smaller rise to 102.4 from the prior 101.8.

“America’s small and independent businesses are rebounding from the first quarter ‘shut down, slow down’ and don’t appear to be looking back,” said NFIB President and CEO Juanita D. Duggan.

Almost every aspect of the survey showed improvement, including expectations for earnings, hiring, and business expansion. Plans to increase capital spending, however, were flat from last month but still very much in positive territory.

Warren: 'No one is above the law, not even' Trump's son

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Monday that President Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., must be held accountable regarding a Senate Intelligence Committee subpoena for his testimony.

"No one is above the law," Warren, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, told reporters during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. "Not even the son of the president of the United States."

Warren's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for further comment from the senator.

The comments appeared to reference the subpoena the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee issued Trump Jr. last week. Reuters reported that senators on the panel are hoping to question Trump Jr. about testimony he gave to the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017 as part of its own probe into Russian election interference.

That particular testimony came under scrutiny after President Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, testified before Congress in February that Trump Jr. was actively involved in talks to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.
