Same. A few days ago I posted an obscure song, left to to get groceries. In the store right as I entered, the song came on. I have no idea…it’s not really a common song at all.

Wow anons. Kidanon just called me from school. In civics class a girl accused her of white privilege. My kid was absolutely furious but knew better than to let it escalate. The teacher overheard and it turned into a discussion.
My kid volunteered to stand up and ended up giving an impromptu speech detailing what it was like to grow up with not much money (and other details I cannot share here) about what we had to go through. It was not an easy life but we never took government handouts. She told them how we used to pay for dented canned goods with change found on our walks but because I made it into a game, kid never knew. Nobody had any idea all this had happened. Kid spoke for 30 minutes and said the room was quiet when speaking, and everyone stood and clapped afterward. I’m hoping that at the very least kid’s classmates learned that you can’t judge a book by its cover and to stop using that phrase just because someone has light skin.
