China can't retaliate against us without shooting itself in the foot. The US is the only market that can absorb their industrial output. They can't even stop buying that much food from us since they're already sucking up ~50% of global food exports.. if they stop buying from american farmers, they eventually end up starving.
Strategically they're not any better off, since their oil supply line is ~12,000 miles long and we own the oceans. If things got really nasty we could break them in a month by blockading their oil in the persian gulf. They can't just get it from VZ either, because they haven't been able to steal the technology to refine that toxic sludge.
