I mean they're not "religious" in the most obvious meaning, but being that they think they have thrown away all that relates to the religious, that they are free from it, but it's still there and being hidden by denial, it comes back in a negative form, with all the worst aspects it can have.
What do people despise about zealots going around preaching loudly to others how to live their lives, all too often outed as hypocrites? That they blindly want to enforce what they firmly believe is "better for all", regardless of all's opinions on the matter.
And that is pretty much exactly what our typical annoying SJW does.
They are the Temperance Leagues of our day.
