Hundreds Of TSA 'Security Ops' Deployed To Southern Border For "Immediate Need"

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is planning to send hundreds of law enforcement officials and as many as "400 people from Security Ops" to the southern border amid efforts to deal with a flood of migrants which are overwhelming current resources, CNN reported Wednesday, citing internal emails leaked to the news agency.

The task of the TSA workers, which a source said will include air marshals, will be to assist temporarily with immigration duties. TSA acknowledged in an internal email the "immediate need" comes with the acceptance of "some risk" of depleted resources in aviation security.

TSA plans for the deployments to involve up to 175 law enforcement officials and as many as "400 people from Security Ops," according to two sources and the email. At least initially, the efforts will not involve uniformed airport screeners, according to the email, which says that some parts of TSA would be asked to contribute "around 10%" of its workforce. -CNN

"There is now immediate need for more help from TSA at the SW border," said Gary Renfrow, a senior TSA official who wrote the email to the agency's regional management. "TSA has committed to support with 400 people from Security Ops" who will be deployed in waves "similar to support for past hurricanes."

"We also understand that we are accepting some risk as we enter a very busy summer," he added, calling the effort an "additional challenge."

The law enforcement officials will be drawn from six cities, according to a CNN source.

A TSA spokesman gave a non-answer: "TSA, like all DHS components, is supporting the DHS effort to address the humanitarian and security crisis at the southwest border. TSA is in the process of soliciting volunteers to support this effort while minimizing operational impact."

The assignment comes as the number of illegal border crossings is spiking, with apprehensions at a 10-year high. Some 4,300 active duty and National Guard troops are currently assisting on the border, the acting defense secretary said recently, and Customs and Border Protection shifted 750 of its own officers to assignments with Border Patrol last month. Before her ouster as Homeland Security secretary last month, Kirstjen Nielsen asked for volunteers within the ranks of DHS employees, including TSA, "to assist CBP and ICE in responding to the emergency at the southern border." -CNN

Most of those deployed will be non-screening staffers who work for the TSA's federal security directors, according to the email. The second priority will be inspectors whose job descriptions include "inspections, assessments and investigations of airlines and individuals to determine how well they comply with regulations."

The memo emphasizes in bolded, uppercase letters that Transportation Security Officers who staff airport security checkpoints will not be involved in the move.

Frustrated GOP senators want answers from Trump on Iran

Frustrated Senate Republicans say the Trump administration has largely kept them in the dark about a possible military confrontation with Iran.

What GOP lawmakers already know, however, has them on edge. Trump has deployed an aircraft carrier strike group, a Patriot missile defense battery and an Air Force bomber task force to the Middle East, while the State Department has ordered a partial evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

A few legislators have received briefings, but many can only guess at the extent of the threat and where a ramp up in combat forces may lead.

“I don’t think it’s fair for us to walk around wondering,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of the Senate’s leading voices on global security issues.

Graham, the chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, said he’s concerned about the evacuation of personnel from the Baghdad embassy given the regular attacks that facility endured during the height of the Iraq War.

“We’re clearly moving people,” he said. “This is a big deal.”

“We had people there during the height of the war,” he added of his experience at the Baghdad embassy. “I was there a bunch of time getting rocketed. If we could stay in operation then, it must be some kind of real threat.”

Republican senators say they don’t know whether Trump is really contemplating the deployment of 120,000 troops to the Middle East to deter attacks by Iranian-backed militants, which The New York Times first reported on Tuesday.

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is up for reelection next year in a state Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won in 2016, said he wants more information from the administration and is worried the conflict with Iran could escalate.

“There should be more briefings. I think we should have that sooner rather later. I’ve talked to the administration about that,” he said, referring to conversations he had in the previous 24 hours.

Gardner, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, noted that lawmakers don’t have an administration assessment on news reports that Iranian proxies were given the green light to attack U.S. personnel in the Middle East.

Obama’s Former DHS Secretary: Population Of Orlando Reached Our Border In Two Months

Former President Barack Obama’s Homeland Security secretary recognized the crisis taking place at the U.S. southern border.

“We had 100,000 apprehensions or encounters in the month of March and another 100,000 in the month of April. It’s the highest it’s been in 12 years,” Jeh Johnson said Wednesday during an appearance on Fox News’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”

“Think of it this way: That is the equivalent of the population of the city of Orlando, Florida showing up on our southern border in the course of two months,” he explained. ‘That creates a crisis, first of all emanating from Central America, traveling through Mexico along the Mexican side of the southern border and the U.S. side of the southern border.”

Johnson — a Democrat who served as Obama’s DHS secretary from December 2013 until the beginning of the Trump administration — lauded the White House’s latest pick to lead the agency. “[Kevin McAleenan is] a good man. I have a lot of faith in him. He’s right that what we faced in 2014 is a fraction of what we’re seeing today.”

The former DHS secretary’s comments confirm what the Trump administration has been arguing for months: The current situation at the border constitutes a crisis.

Border Patrol apprehended or turned back a total of 109,144 migrants in April — marking the second consecutive month where encounters topped 100,000. Apprehensions have risen every month since January. While these numbers are smaller than what’s was seen in the late 1990s, the current demographics is what’s crippling U.S. immigration resources. A bulk of the illegal migrants today are family units and unaccompanied minors from Central America — and current U.S. laws are not suited to adequately process them.

In a recent interview about the creation of the Jewish State of Israel and our Jewish-state Nakba, Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib, U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district, has said:

“all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.”

It doesn’t take much imagination to realize what will happen again — endless maneuvers, deceptions and delays, and in the end, deadlock.

“Rarely were nations able to achieve so much in negotiations while making so few cosmetic concessions in return,” wrote Naseer H. Aruri in 2003 about Israel’s negotiations gains in the Madrid and Oslo “peace process” of the 1990s. What’s happening now is a consolidation of these “negotiations” gains.

The so-called “peace process” wasn’t about peace; it was a negotiating strategy for Israel, and so is Trump’s “deal”.

Through the “peace process”, Israel gained significant benefits: full peace with Jordan, de facto normalization with many Arab states, and full relations with many Islamic and third-world states that had boycotted Israel earlier.

As a result of that “process”, Israel and the Zionist movement accomplished a vital strategic goal, on which Israel and the U.S. are now capitalizing: Making a separate peace with Arab states that is not contingent on the necessity of fulfilling any obligations to the Palestinian people as spelled out in various U.N. resolutions.

The West Bank and Gaza, which Israel does not consider occupied, are not an issue in the negotiations (as, for example, a small desert area in southern Jordan was an issue in the negotiations between Israel and Jordan). And neither is Syria’s Golan Heights, as we are now hearing.

Democrat Witnesses at House Judiciary Committee Hearing Testify Subpoena Nadler Issued Barr Requires AG to Violate the Law

Republican Congressman Kelly Armstrong got Democrat witnesses at a House Judiciary hearing to admit that Nadler was forcing AG Bill Barr to violate the law with his subpoena and contempt threat.

Democrat witnesses at the House Judiciary Committee hearing testified that the subpoena issued to Bill Barr required the Attorney General to violate the law in order to comply.

Last Wednesday President Trump asserted executive privilege over the full, unredacted version of Mueller’s report and the House Dems voted to hold AG Barr in contempt of Congress for refusing to give Congress the full report and underlying grand jury material.

Nadler and the Dems voted to hold Barr in contempt for following the law.

The Dem-controlled Judiciary Committee chaired by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), held a vote last Wednesday morning and voted on party lines — 22 Dems to 12 Republicans.

The measure will then move to the full House for a vote later this month.

The DOJ immediately hit back and argued that AG Barr made “extraordinary efforts to provide Congress” with information related to Mueller’s report, however the attorney general was not going to break the law.

“The Attorney General could not comply with the House Judiciary Committee’s subpoena without violating the law, court rules, and court orders, and without threatening the independence of the Department’s prosecutorial functions,” DOJ spox Kerri Kupic said last week.

Nadler previously gave the Justice Department a deadline to comply with the committee’s offer, which included allowing more members of Congress to look at a less-redacted version of Mueller’s report. Nadler also wanted Barr to seek a court order to grant lawmakers the right to view the underlying grand jury material — Barr complied with the law and blocked the grand jury material from the public and Congress to protect innocent people who have not been indicted.

Under special counsel rules, Attorney General Bill Barr didn’t even need to release Mueller’s report to the public or to Congress. The unredacted version of the report is in a SCIF [Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility] for certain lawmakers to view, however, only a handful of Republican lawmakers have actually viewed the less-redacted version of the report.

Jerry Nadler should be thrown off the House Judiciary Committee for giving Barr the ultimatum to either break the law or be held in contempt.
