Judicial Watch Uncovers DOJ Records Showing Numerous Bruce Ohr Communications with Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele

Ohr Repeatedly Thanked Steele for ‘Updates’ and Assures Steele he will ‘Pass this [Information] along to my Colleagues’

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today it received 339 pages of heavily redacted records from the U.S. Department of Justice which reveal that former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr remained in regular contact with former British spy and Fusion GPS contractor Christopher Steele after Steele was terminated by the FBI in November 2016 for revealing to the media his position as an FBI confidential informant.

The records show that Ohr served as a go-between for Steele by passing along information to “his colleagues” on matters relating to Steele’s activities. Ohr also set up meetings with Steele, regularly talked to him on the telephone and provided him assistance in dealing with situations Steele was confronting with the media.

Judicial Watch obtained the records through a March 2018 Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed after the Justice Department failed to respond a December 2017 request Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-00490)). The lawsuit seeks:

All records of contact or communication, including but not limited to emails, text messages, and instant chats between Bruce Ohr and any of the following individuals/entities: former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele; owner of Fusion GPS Glenn Simpson; and any other employees or representatives of Fusion GPS.

All travel requests, authorizations and expense reports for Bruce Ohr.

All calendar entries for Bruce Ohr.

The timeframe for the requested records is January 1, 2015, to December 7, 2017.

The emails between Bruce Ohr and Steele were heavily redacted, including some of the dates they were sent and received.

Millennials Besieged by Chronic Illness: From Age 27, It’s All “Downhill”

NOTE: There can be no denying that America’s children and young adults are at a critical juncture. Unless we start admitting what we already know about environmental culprits and become willing to do something about them, children, young adults and our nation are going to continue to get short-changed.

Millennials (the generation born between the early 1980s and approximately the mid-1990s) just got some bad news. Health insurance data from 2017 show that many of them, especially older millennials in their mid-30s, are facing unprecedented levels of mental and physical illness.

…over half (54%) of millennial respondents reported having been diagnosed with at least one chronic illness.

According to a report released in April by the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Association, millennials’ sharp decline in health begins around the tender age of 27 and stands in stark contrast to the health of the preceding generation—Generation X, born in the mid-1960s. For eight of 10 health conditions, millennials are experiencing double-digit increases in prevalence compared to what Gen Xers experienced at the same ages. Although four out of five millennials, ironically, perceive themselves to be in “good” or “excellent” health, both the BCBS report and a 2016 Harris Poll survey put the lie to these perceptions. In the survey, over half (54%) of millennial respondents reported having been diagnosed with at least one chronic illness.

Interestingly, a national survey of children’s health conducted in 2007 produced exactly the same result as the Harris Poll for children ages 0-17: 54% of surveyed children had one or more chronic health conditions. The preteens and teens who participated in the 2007 survey fall squarely into the millennial time frame and would have been in their 20s when BCBS conducted its 2017 analysis. For anyone following America’s dismal child health trends over time, the news about millennials’ health can hardly come as a surprise.

Oregon vaccine bill dead. No mandatory vaccinations

The bill is dead. Oregon lawmakers were, thankfully, able to kill a bill that would have put mandatory vaccinations on the books.

“Despite passing the House and having the necessary votes in the Senate, the measure to make it harder for families to opt out of required vaccinations was nixed as part of a deal announced Monday to end a week-long Republican walkout over a multibillion school funding tax.

Under the vaccination measure, sponsored by state Rep. Cheri Helt, R-Bend, children would only have been be able to forgo vaccine requirements with a doctor’s note, otherwise they’d be unable to attend public school.”1

Although the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, continued her fear-based rhetoric about the state being unable to protect “its citizens from a public health crisis,”1 no one in Oregon died of the measles and fewer than 20 people have contracted the virus this year. (In fact, the Pacific Northwest saw only 70 people sickened by measles.)

“Oregon has the highest rate of unvaccinated kindergartners in the country, with at least 7.5% of toddlers claiming an exemption. In some schools, more than 40% of children are unvaccinated through the state’s lax exemption process.

The state is one of 17 to allow families to opt out of required school vaccinations for personal, philosophical or religious reasons.”1

Mississippi, California and West Virginia are the only states to have banned all non-medical exemptions. And Mississippi has the highest childhood vaccination rate in the country. (It’s also, one of the top 10 most unhealthy states in the union.)

“We were quite worried about the Hoover analogies, and we were determined not to have such a disaster happen on our watch,” said Jim Baker, then the FBI’s top lawyer in an interview with the Yahoo News podcast Skullduggery. But he and Comey determined the bureau had an obligation to tell Trump of the uncorroborated allegations because “the press has it; it’s about to come out. You should be alerted to that fact.”

Billionaire Koch Brothers Rail Against Trump: U.S. Must Eliminate All Tariffs

The Koch brothers’ — the billionaire plutocrats and GOP mega-donors — network of organizations are railing against President Trump’s tariffs on China to protect American workers and U.S. industry.

This month, Trump hiked tariffs to 25 percent on about $200 billion worth of Chinese manufactured goods. Trump has also ordered trade officials to begin reviewing the process of increasing tariffs to 25 percent on an additional $300 billion worth of Chinese goods.

In the wake of the latest round of tariffs, the Koch brothers’ organizations like the Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and the Libre Initiative demand that the Trump administration carry out an agenda focused on free trade, as the Bush and Obama administrations did.

AFP President Tim Phillips said that instead of protecting American industries by slapping tariffs on foreign manufacturers and imports, the Trump administration should eliminate all tariffs:

More protectionist measures will continue to undermine the historic pro-growth policy achievements fueling our economy. Countless families, factory workers, and farmers are feeling the financial strain caused by continued trade escalation. [Emphasis added]

Rather than continuing to push a strategy where both sides clearly lose, the U.S. should seek the elimination of all tariffs, quotas, and trade barriers that adversely affect Americans. Adopting a more positive approach will foster growth at home and welcome cooperation from allies and trading partners abroad. [Emphasis added]

AFP Senior Policy Fellow Alison Acosta Winters published an op-ed in the Washington Examiner in which she declared “tariffs are bad” and claimed tariffs “penalize American workers and consumers.”

“Scrapping the tariffs would be easy and the right thing to do,” Winters wrote.” It would help American businesses and consumers.”

Libre Initiative President Daniel Garza in a statement said Trump’s tariffs were specifically harming Hispanic American families and claimed the tariffs have increased “the tax burden on working families” – without providing any data.
