>Why is 98% of every movie about aliens make them look like blood thirsty killers?
SciFi in the movies has always been a tough sell, despite SciFi leterature's centuries of respect and sales.
For Hallloween in 1938, a radio station broadcast a radio play of HG Wells War of the Worlds which leaned heavily on the talent of Orson Wells. While not a movie it was HUGE for its time
In the 1950's and into the 60's SciFi became THE favored platform for people to discuss thorny social issues, advanced technologies and NUKES, the OTHER, and Soviet attack. With notable exceptions, like Forbiden Planet, where the monster wasn't an alien but rather an Ego monster created by ancient technology built by an advanced alien race.
The planet's director, an egomaniacal scientist in search of glory, attempted to use this technology. In his hubris he exposed the machine to his evil ego or ID. The machine created the monster for reasons of its own, and the monster would attack that which caused the director fear and anger.
Most were along the lines of "The evil space monster that conquers the world." They had tiny budgets. B Movies for the drive ins. They are unwatchable crap, but had evil monster aliens who come here for herder reasons. like monopolizing the trade of underpants.
In the 60's 2001's special effects and the Apollo program made respectable SciFi acheivable. When the monster returned to the limelight in 1979's Alien, it was with a twist. The story was an old horror trope, the haunted house/possessed house.
Hell more recently, the aliens were portrayed as nothing more than unpleasant, stupid, illegal aliens, in South Africa. Movie name escapes me.
