Main Dam Spillway Raise Project
Solicitation Number: W91238-INDUSTRYDAY-MDS
Agency: Department of the Army
Office: US Army Corps of Engineers
Location: USACE District, Sacramento
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, is currently planning a Folsom Main Dam Spillway Industry Day for Wednesday May 29, 2019 beginning at 8:00 a.m., at the Resident Engineer Office located at 598 E. Natoma Street, Folsom, CA.
Folsom Dam is located on the American River approximately 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, California. The facility was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1948 and 1956, and is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Central Valley Project. The Main Dam Spillway is a 340-ft-high, 1,400-ft-long concrete gravity section across the river channel. The non-overflow monoliths at each end are flanked by long earthfill embankments extending to both abutments, referred to as wing dams. Other components of the project include a new concrete auxiliary spillway, an auxiliary embankment dam, and eight smaller earthfill dikes that impound a reservoir of 1,010,000 acre-feet. Together, the dam and reservoir form a multipurpose facility providing hydropower generation, flood control, water supply storage, and popular recreational opportunities. The Folsom Dam Raise Project increases the height of all components by 3.5-ft. The focus of this Industry Day is on modifications to the anchorage system of the Main Dam Spillway Tainter gates and spillway piers.
