xmpp FTW

available… now. (dig on popular social media company backbone, server models, etc. most of them are using xmpp based backends already)

It's already out there, but the idea of decentralizing and doing local (federated) communities that can interact is still new to many.

Fakebook got big because marketing push. true federation-based social media using a standard (such as xmpp) is far better, but… no marketing ;p

Good luck. I messed around with a couple of the different presence providers, and also messed around with making a homebrew presence server, which turned out to be rather easy if you have enough brains to install a server… It's a great concept…. But.

It's a solid idea that still needs to further mature, likely due to having been suppressed by the tech monopolies' search aglos ;)

How else do you think FB stays open? They don't do it organically, anons dug up sauce for that ;p
