DHS Chief Threatened To Quit Over Stephen Miller’s Attempt At Another Staff Shakeup

Stephen Miller’s attempt to shift the soon-to-be ICE director nominee to another agency reportedly left acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan threatening to quit, officials said.

Miller — a White House senior adviser who’s taken an outsized role with immigration issues — reportedly urged President Donald Trump on Wednesday to make Mark Morgan the next commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), said officials who spoke with The Washington Post. They said Miller wanted Morgan to lead CBP, despite him being tapped by the president to be the next Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director, because Miller wanted the current acting ICE director to remain in place.

However, this request did not sit well with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kevin McAleenan, the man who leads all of DHS’ various agencies.

McAleenan on Thursday told senior administration officials, including White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, that he was the leader of the department — not Miller, administration sources told WaPo. The acting DHS chief went on to argue that personnel decisions should left up to him, or at the very least he should be involved in the decision-making process, they said.

One White House aide reportedly likened the altercation to an “immigration knife fight.”

McAleenan ended up winning the White House brawl: Morgan will become the next acting ICE director in the coming week, DHS officials said, and Matthew Albence —the current acting ICE director — will go back to his position as ICE deputy director.

The incident marked the latest White House immigration clash involving Miller.

It was recently discovered that, prior to then-DHS chief Kirstjen Nielsen’s removal in April, she blocked a secret White House plan backed by Miller that called for apprehending thousands of parents and children in a sweeping operation to crack down on illegal immigration, DHS officials said. Nielsen and then-ICE acting director Ron Vitiello had objected to the “hastily put together” plan, arguing the administration wasn’t prepared.

The Trump administration embarked on a major immigration staff shakeup in April — removing Nielsen from DHS, pulling Vitiello’s nomination to officially lead ICE, and accepting acting Deputy Secretary for Homeland Security Claire Grady’s resignation. Miller led the removals in large part.

DHS did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Pediatrician to Laura Ingraham: Transgender Therapy for Children is Based on ‘Poor Science,’ & Kids Are ‘Very Much Being Harmed’

On Fox News program The Ingraham Angle Friday, pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Paul Hruz claimed transgender therapy for children is destructive and unfounded.

Regarding hormone therapy for kids, host Laura Ingraham asked Paul why such little media attention’s been given to the medical opposition.

Paul said he believes the intentions of those in favor are honorable, but the science behind the diagnosis and treatment is “poor”:

“It’s fairly important to recognize that what is being put forward with the goal of truly helping these individuals that are suffering is based on very poor science and any effort to draw attention to the poor science and the potential very negative and serious consequences that these hormonal interventions really has not been given the attention they deserve.”

Paul explained that puberty and adolescence can be damaged by the treatment currently being administered to youth:

“[Treatment can do] very serious harms to their bodies throughout the rest of their life — without even considering whether there are alternative options to help them and even recognizing that a large number of children that question their gender identity are going to, if merely left alone, are going to realign their identity with their biological sex.”

Hamas Thanks UK Labour Party’s Jeremy Corbyn For His Support

The Gaza-based terror group Hamas issued a Wednesday statement in which they thanked British Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn for his support.

Corbyn, a known supporter of Palestinians, has faced accusations of anti-Semitism for years, as has the Labour Party.

“Mr. Jeremy Corbyn condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ shooting at unarmed Palestinian demonstrators in Gaza who were calling for their rights to be recognized. He stressed that peace cannot be achieved with the continued illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories,” the letter stated.

“This message expresses support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to freedom, independence and self-determination. It also condemns the ongoing occupation and its crimes against our people, and reflects an advanced moral and political position worthy of all praise and thanks,” it continued.

It went on, “We also salute Mr. Jeremy Corbyn for his principled position in rejecting the so-called Trump Plan for the Middle East or the ‘Deal of the Century’ if it was based on erasing Palestinian rights, primarily the right to an independent state.”
