Member of the Freedom Caucus!

U.S. Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan on Saturday became the first Republican lawmaker to say President Trump had "engaged in impeachable conduct." In a series of tweets, Amash wrote he had read the full report by special counsel Robert Mueller and had concluded there is a "threshold for impeachment."

"Under our Constitution, the president 'shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,'" Amash wrote Saturday. "While 'high Crimes and Misdemeanors' is not defined, the context implies conduct that violates the public trust."

A Fake News piece from March 2019

Seems like Amash has not been happy

Amash was the sole member of the caucus to vote against Trump's use of emergency powers to seize funds for his long-desired wall along the southern border, even though the Freedom Caucus was known for lambasting President Barack Obama's executive maneuvering to get around Congress.

"In some sense you've delegitimized objections to the President," Amash said of his peers. "You've built up such credibility for him that you just can't challenge him anymore."

Asked if he'd thought about leaving the Freedom Caucus in recent months, the congressman admitted he has been "disenchanted" enough to consider it at times. But he said having close partners to work with on issues he cares about has kept him from calling it quits.

Looking more like Amash is a divider.

Ego. Power. Control.

Amash’s devotion to his principles has grated Republicans. Not long after the 2012 election, the GOP Steering Committee voted to remove Amash from the Budget Committee, while also punishing three other lawmakers in a similar fashion.

At the start of the 113th Congress, his only committee assignment was to the Oversight and Government Reform panel. He continues to serve on that committee in the 116th Congress.

Amash has been clear-eyed that his party has transformed since the libertarian wave of 2010, which helped bring him into office.

“The tea party is largely gone. It was replaced with nationalism and protectionism and the general philosophy of the party now under Trump,” Amash said to MLive.

The 3rd District representative acknowledged that any libertarian candidate would need to draw support from both parties.

Gave no name some money

way back when, then got pissed

at no name for being 'racist' against Iran leader.

Amash, a second-term member best known for his libertarian views, is a second-generation Palestinian-American. He used to have a better opinion of McCain, donating $500 to his presidential campaign in 2008.
