Salvini Pledges to ‘Free Europe from Illegal Occupation Organised by Brussels’ at Populist Rally

MILAN (AP) – Italy’s anti-migration Interior Minister Matteo Salvini led a rally of right-wing populist leaders Saturday seeking historic results in next week’s European Parliament elections in their bid to transform European politics. Salvini, the head of Italy’s right-wing League party, has positioned himself at the forefront of a growing movement of nationalist leaders seeking to free the European Union’s 28 nations from what he called Brussels’ “illegal occupation.” He pledged to close Europe’s borders to migrants if the League wins not just the most votes of any party in Italy, but also of Europe.

Salvini was joined by 10 other nationalist leaders, including Marine Le Pen of France’s National Rally party and Joerg Meuthen of the Alternative for Germany party. It was a major tour de force for the expanding movement ahead of the May 23-26 vote that will take place in all 28 EU nations. Still, most of the tens of thousands of supporters that packed the square outside the central Duomo cathedral in Milan were there for Salvini. League flags filled the square, with a smattering of national flags from other nations. A short distance away, 2,000 protesters marched to protest the right-wing gathering.

In front of the Duomo, Salvini railed against unchecked migration and decried Islam, saying it mistreated women. He said Turkey would never be a part of Europe and rejected the label of extremists for the leaders with him. “In this piazza, there are no extremists. There are no racists. There are no fascists. If anything in Italy and in Europe, the difference is between who looks ahead, between who speaks of the future … instead of making trials of the past,” he said. The populist leaders in Milan are making one of the strongest challenges to the European status quo in decades, united under an anti-migration, anti-Islamism, anti-bureaucracy banner.

“It is a historic moment important enough to free the continent from the illegal occupation organized by Brussels for many years,” Salvini said. He accused European leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker of “betraying Europe … by constructing a Europe of finance and uncontrolled immigration.”

Notably absent was the leader of Austria’s anti-immigration Freedom Party, Heinz Christian Strache. He stayed at home to resign as vice chancellor after two German newspapers showed video of him offering government contracts to a potential Russian benefactor in return for support for his party. Despite the political setback for a key member of the Europe of Nations and Freedom parliamentary group, Le Pen predicted the group “will perform a historic feat, moving from the 8th place in Europe to third or maybe second” among major political groups in the European Parliament. Speaking to reporters before the rally, Le Pen called Strache’s predicament a domestic matter, but expressed surprise “that this video that seems two years old is coming out today, a few days before the election.” She said the movement was united “in our conception of cooperation in Europe, our shared desire to protect our citizens, our common refusal to see our country being subjected to the submergence of migration. “The fundamental fight we are waging is a commitment against totalitarianism, globalization and Islamism to which the European Union is responding, respectively, through accession and complacency,” she said.

The populist leaders want to decentralize some EU policymaking, including for trade, agriculture, and banking, while tightening immigration laws. Most share common views over immigration and want certain powers to be returned to the member states’ capitals, but clash on other economic and social policies. An analysis by the London-based Teneo consultancy forecasts that Europe’s two traditional centre-right and centre-left political groups will be weakened in the May vote, falling short of the 50 per cent threshold of support for the first time. But Teneo said that result will mostly increase the influence of other centrist parties more than that of the nationalists.

Trump: Biden’s son should face probe over China business deal

President Trump says Joe Biden should be investigated over a conservative author’s allegations that his son Hunter Biden pocketed millions from the Chinese government in a shady business deal.

“One-hundred percent. It’s a disgrace. And then he says China’s not a competitor of ours. China is a massive competitor of ours. They want to take over the world,” the president told Steve Hilton of Fox News Channel’s “The Next Revolution.”

In his 2018 book, “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends,” author Peter Schweizer charged that Hunter was cashing in while then-veep Biden was negotiating with China.

“The vice president is negotiating a bunch of very sensitive issues with the Chinese, including the South China Sea, trade, tech transfer, etc. Shortly after they return to the US, Hunter Biden’s firm receives a $1 billion private equity deal from the Chinese government We have no way of knowing how much Rosemont made on the deal because there are no disclosure requirements,” he wrote. Biden and his partners denied Schweizer’s account and accused him of writing politically motivated hit pieces.

Students, Faculty Walk Out in Protest of Mike Pence Commencement Address

Dozens of students and faculty members at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana walked out of a graduation ceremony ahead of Vice President Mike Pence’s commencement address on Saturday, according to a report.

The Indianapolis Star reports the planned protest came after intense debate over the “appropriateness” of the vice president’s speech before the nondenominational Christian liberal arts school. A vast majority Taylor’s graduating class stayed in their seats as Pence took the stage. He received a standing ovation following the walk-out. In his remarks, Pence urged students and faculty to stand tall against increasing hostility against Christians. “Throughout most of our American history it’s been pretty easy to call yourself a Christian, but things are different now,” Pence said. “Lately, it’s become acceptable, even fashionable, to malign traditional Christian beliefs.”

Laura Rathburn, one of the 494 graduating students, protested Pence’s visit by decorating her cap with a rainbow with the message: “Ally Visible For Those Who Can’t Be.” “I thought it was a really inappropriate decision. I think his presence makes it difficult for everyone at Taylor to feel welcomed,” the student told the Indianapolis Star before Pence took the stage. Thousands signed numerous Change.org petitions protesting Pence’s address and demanding the university replace the vice president with another speaker. “Inviting Vice President Pence to Taylor University and giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administration’s policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear,” wrote one signee.

Pence shared several photos to Twitter ahead of his address before Taylor University, thanking them for a “warm welcome.” He is the first American executive branch official to address at the small Christian school of about 2,500, noted the Indianapolis Star. In 2017, students walked out on Pence’s commencement speech at Notre Dame University’s graduation ceremony.

SAT to Give ‘Adversity Score’ Reflecting Students’ Social and Economic Background to College Admissions

Students who take the SAT college entrance exam will now be assigned an “adversity score” to inform schools of their social and economic background, including the crime rate in their neighborhoods and the poverty levels of their high schools, says the College Board.

As the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, the College Board, whose CEO is David Coleman, one of the “architects” of the Common Core State Standards, the new “adversity score” is calculated by using 15 factors, including crime rate and poverty level – but not race, though schools can obtain students’ race by other means. The adversity scores will be kept hidden from students, but college admissions officers will see them as they consider their applicants. The College Board, however, is not revealing how it calculates its new “adversity score.” “The data that informs the score comes from public records such as the U.S. Census as well as some sources proprietary to the College Board, Mr. Coleman said,” reported the WSJ.

In 2013, Coleman keynoted an Annual Strategic Data Project conference. During his address, he praised the collection of student data via the Common Core initiative and welcomed members of Barack Obama’s re-election campaign to that effort. His plan was to develop an economic justice project, the Access to Rigor Campaign, aimed at profiling students he referred to as “low-hanging fruit,” or low-income K-12 students.

The adversity score is offered in the midst of a college admissions cheating scandal that has seen prominent parents, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, involved in a scheme to pay thousands of dollars for their children to gain entrance to elite schools. In addition, a judge’s decision on a lawsuit accusing Harvard University of discriminating against Asian-American applicants remains pending. The trial revealed the school’s internal policy that blatantly discriminated against Asian-American high school students, holding them to a higher standard during the admissions review process.

David Horowitz, conservative author and founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and its Stop K-12 Indoctrination campaign, said the addition of the new adversity score is another way to make SAT evaluations more “complicated” and “easier to rig the system to get the results that will satisfy the ‘pc’ bigots.” “I’m beginning to feel sorry for Felicity Huffman,” Horowitz told Breitbart News. “She paid to rig the college entrance system and get her daughter into Harvard or wherever. Now she’s going to jail for a crime that schools like Harvard commit on a daily basis.” “It is no accident for example that the percentage of Jews at Ivy League schools has plummeted since the advent of so-called affirmative action programs which, as practiced, are nothing more than old fashioned racism,” Horowitz said. “Felicity Huffman is being hung for a crime that every Harvard admissions officer commits year in and year out, and that the College Board is intent on continuing and expanding.”

John Cusack responded to a headline from the Hill noting his calls for the impeachment of Donald Trump. “I didn’t “call for impeachment” actually as we’ve been doing that for years now – I came to discuss what they are doing to protect us from the assault on democracy from trump crime mob,” the actor said. Cusack aligned himself with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his neo-Marxist paradigm of politics as a power struggle between various arbitrarily defined demographic groups. The 52-year-old actor retweets messages invoking “white capitalist patriarchy,” “progressive” politics, and characterizing those opposing abortion as “fascists.”

During the day, Cusack derided Attorney General William Barr as a “criminal” for adhering to federal law by redacting restricted grand jury information pertaining to Mueller’s aforementioned report. Cusack was reported as wearing a jacket with the message “Good Night White Pride” during his visit to the Capitol. “Trump needs to be removed from office,” declared Cusack.

Border Patrol Official: Migrants Won’t Be Sent to Florida ‘at this Time’ Following Blowback

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) official said late Friday that plans to send migrant families to South Florida have been put on hold temporarily following a backlash from state lawmakers. The development came after Broward and Palm Beach county officials said they were notified by U.S. Border Patrol that more than a 100 immigrants would be sent weekly to each of the counties starting in the next two weeks. According to NPR, the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the agency will not be “transporting any family units to Florida at this time,” but left the door open to “possibly housing and processing migrants at other U.S. Border Patrol sectors across the nation.”

Earlier Friday, Florida’s governor said he planned to fight a federal plan to fly immigrants from the Mexican border to two South Florida counties, vowing he would take his case to President Donald Trump. “We cannot accommodate in Florida just dumping unlawful migrants into our state. I think it will tax our resources, the schools, the health care, law enforcement, state agencies,” DeSantis told reporters in Sarasota after a bill signing ceremony.

In a statement to WPTV, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed that the administration would not follow through with sending the migrant families to the Sunshine State. He said: It appears that Border Patrol has backed off its initial plans to transport a thousand illegal immigrants to South Florida. I want to thank the community for its support. I also want to thank all the elected officials that came to the press conference to support our efforts and thank the governmental officials that stepped forward to make sure that, if in fact this happened, we would have the proper plans in place. Because of everybody’s efforts, we are able to stop what had appeared to be a crisis for our community.

As Breitbart News previously reported, at the Department of Homeland Security’s current rate, over 40,000 border crossers and illegal aliens are released into the interior of the U.S. each month, while over 10,000 are being released every week.
