Have you seen Kill la Kill?

I will simply say that there are many who simply wear symbols. It is not enough, however, to simply wear clothing. You must understand and become part of the symbol for it to have true power.
That is why Madonna is coming off as weird, out of touch, and uninspired.
At first, a symbol or trinket is what any new and trendy thing is… New and trendy. Pretty-pretty, shiney-shiney. But this wears off. At some point, those who simply wear symbols will be exposed as merely pigs in human clothing gorging off of the attention and efforts of others.
Symbolism will be their downfall, and multiple meanings exist.

Around 5:30 is the point of highest relevance, but the whole scene is an excellent lesson. Particularly when you know the end and how Satsuki is truly aligned. She asks very pointed questions of Ryuuko.
"There is no denying reason; no escaping purpose."
Kill la Kill is symbolism to the exponent of symbolism. You need to know Shinto and Taoist symbolism/legends/mythos, as well as Japanese history AND our western history/mythos to begin to pick it apart.
Read up on the story of Izanami and Izanagi. That will help you understand a lot.
Also, "The Yellow Dragon Emperor" - what Satsuki's last name translates into. It is a Taoist concept.
There is an often-overlooked part of Kill la Kill. It is an homage to Neon Genesis: Evangelion, where the teacher is always talking about the second impact - but this teacher is more than he appears, and is talking about Hitler's rise to power in World War 2, amid an institution designed out of heavy naval themes and with the Satsuki's conduct being outwardly fascist.
I'm not saying there is no symbolism in what madonna is saying/doing - but she's kind of retarded. They are just wearing symbols that held meaning among certain circles. The reason it lost its power is because it has no real meaning. A symbol's real power comes from becoming that symbol or that icon and wielding its true meaning.
What she is doing is the symbolic equivalent of "REEEEE!!!" Throwing a bunch of symbols up to see what sticks.
Again - the sunlight behind Satsuki vs the prismatic light behind her mother… And the shape-shifter who serves her, Nui.
