Austrian vice chancellor’s resignation a blow to populists ahead of EU vote
Austria's populist vice chancellor resigned Saturday after two German publications showed a video of him apparently offering lucrative government contracts to a potential Russian benefactor at a party in Ibiza.
The resignation of Heinz-Christian Strache was a black eye for the populist and nationalist forces who favor tighter European immigration policies. It came only a few days before the May 23-26 elections in 28 European Union nations to fill the European Parliament.
Standing before journalists and TV cameras in Vienna, Strache announced his resignation without taking questions. He said he was set up in a "political assassination" but added that his behavior in the video was "stupid, irresponsible and a mistake."
The daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung and the weekly Der Spiegel on Friday published extracts of a covert video purportedly showing Strache offering Austrian government contracts to a Russian woman who was allegedly interested in investing large amounts of money in Austria.
The 49-year-old politician said he had been in a state of "increasing alcohol intoxication" and had "behaved like a teenager" in an attempt to "impress the attractive host" at an Ibiza villa.
He said he had had no further contact with the woman and she gave no contributions to his far-right, anti-migrant Freedom Party. He claimed to be a victim of the illegal use of surveillance equipment…….

Covfefe dominates the G3 Miss Preakness Stakes in track-record time
LNJ Foxwoods' Covfefe remained undefeated in 2019 with a win in Friday afternoon's Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, trouncing the field by 8 1/2 lengths in track-record time. The 3-year-old Into Mischief filly completed six furlongs over the fast track in 1:07.70, giving Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano his third win in a row on the Black-Eyed Susan card. Trained by Brad Cox, the 8-5 favorite Covfefe took her first graded victory to improve her record to three wins from four career starts.
“Javier did a great job,” said Cox. “She did break the track record? It doesn't matter, but she's fast. We weren't hell-bent on getting to the lead today. We were going to let the speed go if there was a lot of it. Javier did a great job of letting her fall into the race.”……..

Like the ghost in the attic, Hillary Clinton will not go away.
She is haunting the country’s body politic, a shadow president making so much noise about being wronged in 2016, that she is sucking up the media coverage that would go to others.
The others are the 23 or so Democrats running for president, most of whom nobody ever heard of. While they struggle to become known, Hillary Clinton elbows them aside.
When they go to her for advice — she has, after all, run for president twice — she does not talk about foreign policy or the economy, but how rotten Donald Trump is and how the 2016 presidential election was “stolen” from her.
“I think it’s also critical to understand, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me,” she said last week, “you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you.”
One third of that statement is true — she was the nominee; two thirds are not. Hillary Clinton did not run the best campaign. Her campaign was a disaster. She was a disaster. She insulted half of the electorate by calling them “deplorables” even before the first vote was cast.
“So, part of our challenge is to understand what it will take to put together not only the popular vote, but the Electoral College,” she added…..

Something sure ran out, because she sounds totally whacked out of her mind. But your are right–evil eventually turns on the ones who use it. They become pitiful in the end.
