It can also go the other way. I knew someone who was married for over 20 years and was totally fucked over by an asshole.
Wife was supposed to get 50% from sale of house. The guy destroyed part of the house, would not cooporate with realtor, prevented it from being sold for a couple of years( in that state, when you buy a house only one name goes on title unless you request it)
Being married for so long, when they bought property, it was never even thought about.
After divorce while this was going on, he then took a loan out and sucked all the equity from the house, and sold it with zero profit so she would get nothing.
She was a stay at home mom with no career, then he fucked her out of child support. Kept quitting his job as soon as it got to court.
She went to court about house and child support, they did not do anything. Was so unfair.
She could not afford a lawyer, and court did not abide by their own previous rulings( he had to cooporate with realtor, child support enforcement was supposed to check every 3 months with him on job status)
they did jack shit.
Just saying it can go both ways, i've seen men and women both get fucked over.
Friend eventually started getting support, took years.

So she had no car, and he had a couple.

Found out later he had abused her over the years, so that made me wish i had kicked his ass, if i had known how much of a prick he really was.
