  • The Manhattan project was under the direction of the Army Crop of Engineers

  • Los Alamos, home of the Manhattan project, was originally named Project Y

  • Involved in the Manhattan project was a group of Hungarian-born scientists known as the Martians because they jokingly said they were from Mars

  • One of the Martians was John von Neumann

  • Neumann’s achievements included quantum logic, game theory, and artificial intelligence

  • Von Neumann is credited with developing the equilibrium strategy of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD)

  • On May 19, 2019, POTUS tweeted “Alfred E. Newman will never be President!”

  • Alfred E. Neuman is the fictitious mascot and cover boy of the American humor magazine Mad

  • Of the 17 DOE labs, the National Energy Technology Lab is located in the Keystone State

  • The DOE, although only in existence since 1977, traces its lineage to the Manhattan Project effort to develop the atomic bomb during World War II
