California Spending Enormously To Maximize 2020 Census Count

California Democrats are worried that they will not only not gain Congressional seats, but that they may actually lose one after the 2020 U.S. Census count is completed — which would be the first time in the state’s 169-year history.

California has budgeted and is spending $100 million in 2018-19 fiscal year to ensure every person, including legal and illegal immigrants, are counted during the Census. And they have budgeted another $54 million for 2019-2020 to continue the effort. This compares to $2.3 million the state spent in 2010 in inflation adjusted dollars.

All of the states combined are planning to spend about $400 million on the Census count, meaning that nearly 40 percent of all public spending on the Census nationwide is being spent just in California. The second highest state is Illinois at $84 million, meaning 60 percent of states’ spending on the Census is in just two states — arguably two of the biggest spending, worst-run states in the union, which explains the importance they are placing on getting federal money.

Justin Amash Condemned By House Freedom Caucus, Primary Challenged for Impeachment Call

The House Freedom Caucus voted Monday evening to condemn Rep. Amash. Earlier in the day, a pro-Trump and media-savvy state representative announced he would primary challenge the incumbent.

Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Oh., said members “consider him a friend” but Rep. Amash has not bothered to attend most Freedom Caucus meetings this year, nor has he held a meeting of the Liberty Caucus, a conservative caucus he founded and chairs.

Meanwhile, State Rep. Jim Lower, R-Greenville, announced on Monday he will primary challenge Rep. Amash in 2020, calling the congressman “out of touch” with the Trump-supporting district in West Michigan.

John Walker Lindh, American ex-Taliban militant, set to walk free Thursday

The Islamic militant who became known as the infamous "American Taliban" member is set to be released from a U.S. federal prison Thursday despite lawmakers' concerns about the “security and safety implications” of freeing an unrepentant terrorist who officials say continues to “openly call for extremist violence.”

“We must consider the security and safety implications for our citizens and communities who will receive individuals like John Walker Lindh, who continue to openly call for extremist violence,” Sens. Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., and Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., wrote in a letter to the Federal Bureau of Prisons late last week that was obtained by the Washington Post.

In the letter, the lawmakers reportedly sought details on how the agency is working to prevent prisoners such as Lindh from committing additional crimes after their release. They also asked which other “terrorist offenders” are next in line to be freed and how the Federal Bureau of Prisons determines whether or not someone is an “ongoing public threat.”
