Hundreds Rally in Times Square to Protest Anti-Semitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

Last night hundreds of protesters gathered in Times Square in New York City to call for the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee. The protest was organized by conservative activist Joe Diamond, whose campaign to raise funds for a Times Square billboard was pulled by Facebook soon after they’d raised adequate funds. The Jerusalem Post covered the event:

Following the Minnesotan congresswoman’s highly-publicized allegations of antisemitism and statement downplaying the 9/11 terrorist attacks, New York native and activist Joe Diamond organized a rally and billboard launch calling on the removal of Omar, one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to the US legislature.

“In my lifetime I cannot think of any other politician who presents a bigger threat to the alliance between the US and Israel and to America’s Jews,” Diamond told the Jerusalem Post ahead of Monday’s protest. “This woman is an ardent antisemite and she doesn’t even try to hide it.”

Omar’s critics had planned to launch a billboard with redacted quotes from the politician, alongside graphic 9/11 imagery. The group, named ‘Ilan Must Go,’ was prepared to spend thousands of dollars on the billboard, with donations from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Zionist Organization of America and more. Instead, the detractors put the video display on a truck, as they were unable to receive a stationary billboard permit from local authorities, which cited the ad as “disparaging.”

No U.S. mainstream media outlets covered the protest. The mobile billboard can be seen in the following video posted to Twitter:

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Joins ABC News And The Atlantic

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has joined The Atlantic as a contributing editor and will become a political analyst for ABC News. Both announcements came Tuesday.

Emanuel, who previously served as the press secretary during the Obama administration, has spent the last year going on various news outlets pursuing a job, The Daily Beast first reported.

He published an article on The Atlantic Tuesday as one of his first acts as a part of the media. The article focused on how the Democrats should not turn toward socialism as a way to re-energize their base. Instead, he argues that the Party should become one “of justice.”

Emanuel published another Atlantic opinion piece on the site back in March, where he argued a similar point, “If Trump’s only hope for winning a second term turns on his ability to paint us as socialists, we shouldn’t play to type.”

Emanuel is the latest politician-turned-news-contributor. Former Republican Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake joined CBS News after leaving Congress in January. Former Tallahassee Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum and former Republican Utah Rep. Mia Love have joined CNN.

The former Chicago Mayor made headlines as his tenure wound down for attacking the prosecutors who dropped charges against “Empire” star Jussie Smollett for faking a police report.

“They said, in fact, the police did a good job and the evidence holds up and he actually did commit the hoax. They’re saying $10,000 and two days of community service is good enough,” Emanuel said at the time. “I don’t believe, not only is it not good enough — especially when he’s walking around thinking he’s innocent.”

Putin, Merkel, Macron Confirm Commitment to Cooperate With Iran - Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday during a phone conversation reaffirmed their support for mutually-beneficial economic cooperation with Iran and stressed importance of preserving the Iran nuclear deal, the Kremlin said in a statement.

"During the discussion of the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program, the importance of preserving this agreement, which is a key factor in maintaining international stability and security, was noted. Russia, France and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to further mutually beneficial cooperation with Iran in trade and economy," the statement said.

Since the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) last year, Washington has reinstated sanctions against Iran, targeting mainly its oil sector.

Other signatories to the Iran nuclear deal, China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the European Union, have slammed Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA stressing that the reinstatement of sanctions threatens not only Iran itself but also countries and companies that stay continue doing business with Tehran.

Having that in mind, these countries agreed that a special mechanism, dubbed the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX), would be created to facilitate trade between companies and Iran amid the sanctions by Washington.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

Another topic which was discussed during the phone conversation was Russia's voting rights at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

According to the statement released by the Kremlin, the leaders of Russia, Germany and France have backed restoring voting rights to the Russian delegation to PACE.

"The leaders of the three countries spoke in favour of resolving the crisis in the Council of Europe that was triggered by the unlawful decision to strip the Russian delegation of its key rights at the Parliamentary Assembly… They supported restoring the Russian PACE delegation's rights in full," the statement read.
