Trillions, if not quadrillions of habitable planets are out there. But its hard to say which are inhabited and which arent.
Intelligent life in the cosmos may be some of the most extremophile entities you can imagine, making quarter in cores of moons, dead planets, and so on just for fun and with millions if not billions of years of evolution ahead of us it would be presumptive to think we could just waltz onto what could be a very angry and very old neighbor's front lawn.
I say we focus on sublight travel first, making Sol a veritable fortress of our own before venturing out into the wider cosmos.
Terraforming could be done through sublight means, and, in the meantime VR could be a fantastic tool to educate, and entertain for the long journeys involved.
FTL must be held in a tight cartel or we risk:
A. Misusing it with catastrophic results, or
B. Taking the wrong turn at Albuquerque, if you know what I mean
As far as the human race goes Im sure ole uncle adolf set up some colonies way back when with a less than savory deal with ETs (who should be considered a biohazard at best, and overtly hostile at worst). But securing the Sol system and terraforming can be done with sublight means. More importantly FTL creates scalar waves while sublight rockets do not, but, creating the infrastructure and political unity for such endeavours will be, challenging, to say the least.
Lets wait and see for the election, if Biden was so bad Trump wouldnt be defending him against Bernie. But who knows.
Ill admit, God Emperor Trump does have a certain ring to it. Lol
