Judicial Watch sues for FBI chart on statutes for prosecuting Hillary Clinton

A conservative watchdog group is suing the Justice Department for any copies of a chart that may show statutes by which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could have been prosecuted for the use of an unauthorized private email server.

The lawsuit comes after the agency declined to respond to a Freedom of Information Act request, Judicial Watch announced on Monday.

This chart was discussed during testimony last year by Bill Priestap, who served as assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s counterintelligence division. A transcript of that closed-door testimony shows an email from an unknown individual in the FBI general counsel’s office, sent to Priestap's former superior Michael Steinbach, had a chart of “available statutes for prosecuting the former Secretary of State" which did not include "gross negligence."

Asked to talk about it, Priestap said he didn't know who sent the email or why they used the language, "DOJ not willing to charge this." However, he did say his "attitude is that if there is a Federal criminal statute still on the books, then, you know — and we think there may or might be a violation of that, we still have to work to uncover whether, in fact, there was."

In a separate hearing, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page said officials in the bureau, including then-FBI Director James Comey, discussed Espionage Act charges against Clinton, citing “gross negligence," but the Justice Department shut them down.

This all goes back to the FBI’s "Midyear Exam" investigation, which looked into whether Clinton committed crimes when she sent and received classified information on her unauthorized private email server while serving as secretary of state. Comey cleared Clinton of all charges in a press conference on July 5, 2016.

In its lawsuit, Judicial Watch also demands draft copies of FBI talking points after Comey's press conference.

“Judicial Watch will continue to press for the chart the FBI has been hiding which details possible violations of law by Hillary Clinton” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “Now that the Mueller investigation has ended, the FBI has the time and manpower to focus on an investigation of Clinton unencumbered by Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page and their anti-Trump colleagues.”

The transcript of closed-door testimony by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch was released on Monday. In it Lynch denied under oath that she ever made any law enforcement decisions at the Justice Department that were for political reasons, including in regards to the Clinton email investigation.

US Intercepts 4 Russian Bombers, 2 Fighter Jets off Alaska Coast

Russian bombers fly near Alaska coast, US military says

Four nuclear-capable Russian bombers and two Russian fighter jets were intercepted off the west coast of Alaska by U.S. aircraft, American military officials said Monday.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said in a statement that its early warning system identified the four Tupolev Tu-95 bombers and two Su-35 fighters entering the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone, but noted that the Russian aircraft never entered American or Canadian airspace.

The statement said two of the Russian bombers initially were intercepted by one pair of F-22 fighter jets, while another pair of F-22s intercepted the other two bombers and the Su-35s later on. Further details of the encounter were not provided.

Russia's Ministry of Defense said on Twitter Tuesday that the U.S. planes accompanied the Russian aircraft along part of their route.

The agency said the Russian planes made scheduled sorties over the neutral waters of the Chukotka, Bering and Okhotsk seas, as well as along the western coast of Alaska and the northern coast of the Aleutian Islands.

"NORAD’s top priority is defending Canada and the United States," NORAD Commander Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy said in a statement. "Our ability to deter and defeat threats to our citizens, vital infrastructure, and national institutions starts with successfully detecting, tracking, and positively identifying aircraft of interest approaching U.S. and Canadian airspace. NORAD is on alert 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year."

Trayvon Martin’s Mother Running for Office to Push Gun Control

Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, is running for the position of Miami-Dade County commissioner with gun control as her top priority.

Neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman shot and killed Martin in self-defense on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman was charged and tried in the shooting, and on July 13, 2013, the Associated Press reported that he “was cleared of all charges.”

Fulton is now running for political office determined to push gun control.

The Washington Post quoted Fulton saying, “My time as a public servant began 30 years ago at Miami-Dade County. Since 2012, I have advocated tirelessly to empower our communities and make them safer. But the work is not done. I am proud to announce that I will run to represent District 1 on the county commission.”

The Post reports Fulton’s campaign manager indicating “[she] intends to keep gun-violence prevention at the top of her priority list.”

Fulton will be running against Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert III.
