Don't want to start a huge argument about it, but keep that question on the back-burner.
Everyone is part of the show, anon. There is no fourth wall on this grand stage of life.
Of course… Some people don't exactly play their roles conscious of the fact they are a character in a performance. Therefore, they are incapable of truly appreciating opportunities to develop that character. So there is that. Greek tragedies work okay, too.
