I think the climate for protecting children in the US has just gotten a lot better. The LA Times had two stories revealing lapses in the care of children one involving child protective services and another about a prominent immigrant rights supporter who's home for children has serious health and safety issues. In Alabama a lab operator has been accused of submitting fraudulent reports which may have affected custody decisions.https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-me-immigrant-children-group-home-casa-libre-peter-schey/

I've done a little of this myself over the years-talking to people who have involvement with the family court and CPS systems. Horror stories seem to be the norm and not the exception. I have read the book about Medical Kidnapping written by Brian Shilhavy and he wrote about Nancy Schaefer. I'm sure elected officials like her are rare because decent people know they will put their lives on the line to do their jobs with integrity.
