My own two cents: Trump kept new hires at State low to weed out bad actors. Tillerson was a loyal holding pattern while Trump cleaned up other areas of the swamp.
Interesting pick for new Secretary. Pompeo in former CIA would have colllected all the dirt on state employees doing bad things overseas. Everything from improper accounting of state assets to leaking intel to press.
Pompeo can clean up State Dept. Maybe with help of DoJ, even prosecute some of these people. I suspect, under Tillerson, they got comfortable and felt free to act badly without threat or recourse by Tillerson.
Pompeo has dirt. He will give underlings option. Leave or be prosecuted. He might say here’s the dirt we have on you, we will allow you to stay on/retire if you cough up details about HRC/John Kerry misdeeds.
