They are made up of/created by humans.
Humans are obssesed with these things. Because our early years before Polis was a bunch of that shit and moar.
The humans that have an unhealthy obsession with these things weave their malicious desire and thirst into the corruption or creation of unholy symbols. Why they do this is beyond me. Seems evoloutionarily counter productive.
If group B is in the minority and wishes to do ghastly things to group A covertly, and manipulatively because of "muh power" then they wouldnt broadcast patterns of their belief or actions in symbols observed commonly.
Then again its evoultionarily counter productive to be them. Because if our ancestors found them doing what the do in the clans communal cave. We'd feed to the tigers.
