Ohio city warns residents as KKK, Antifa, New Black Panthers converge over Memorial Day weekend

Dayton, Ohio is bracing for what could become a violent convergence of groups centered around a Saturday rally by a Ku Klux Klan affiliated group. Democratic Mayor Nan Whaley released a video Tuesday titled, “Dayton United Against Hate.” In the video she urged people to avoid the downtown part of the city where the rally is slated to take place. Whaley said she hoped Saturday would be “a day that our community demonstrated that we are united against hate.” “There are many ways to show this opposition, but for public safety we are encouraging people to avoid downtown during the rally on May 25,” Whaley said. “Extremists such as this hate group are not interested in a conversation and try to use these events to provoke responses from the crowd.”

City officials approved the application from the Honorable Sacred Knights of Indiana in February. The application says that the group expects roughly 20 white supremacists to show up, according to Newsweek. Counterprotesters, including Antifa, the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, and other groups are also expected to make an appearance — and they could number up to 1,000.

The director of Dayton’s Jewish Community Relations Council, Rabbi Ari Ballaban, warned in a statement about the potential for violent clashes between the groups. He said he has faith that local police will “ensure Dayton not become the next Charlottesville,” but still worried about the situation. “Courthouse Square will be a powder keg on the 25th. Not only will the KKK be present, but there will likely be thousands of angry counterprotesters there, many bused in from around the region,” Ballaban said. In 2017, the white supremacist “Unite the Right” rally Charlottesville, Va., led to clashes between protesters and counterprotesters, culminating in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer who was run over by a neo-Nazi.

Sen. Schumer: 'We are putting the heat' on GOP to support Roe v. Wade

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., laid out the Senate Democrats' plan in response to the number of anti-abortion laws that have passed at the state level across the country on Wednesday. "First, [Sen.] Patty Murray has put together a resolution that says we support Roe; we support a woman’s right to have her own health care and to control her own body. Just about every Democrat has already signed on to it, and we are asking — every day we will be be asking our Republican colleagues, 'Are you with Roe or against Roe? You have to state a position,'" Schumer said in an MSNBC interview.

Schumer said while Republicans may say they do not support the recent anti-abortion bill that passed in Alabama, they do support federal judges who have stated their opposition to the landmark case that made abortion legal across the country. "So we are putting the heat on them. Hypocrites," he said.

Mark Meadows: Adam Schiff, Democrats are raging over 'information coming that will curl your hair'

Rep. Mark Meadows said on Wednesday that Democrats are in a panic because "there is information coming that will curl your hair," referring to the expected declassification of key documents related to the Russia investigation. During an interview on Fox News, the North Carolina Republican said Democrats, and in particular House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, know that when these documents come out it will be trouble for them.

"There is information coming that will curl your hair. I can tell you that the reason why it is so visceral — the response from the Democrats is so visceral right now — is because they know, they've seen documents. Adam Schiff has seen documents that he knows what actually put the finger pointing back at him and his Democratic colleagues, not the president of the United States," he told host Sean Hannity.

Democrats in the House are engaged in a multi-pronged effort to investigate President Trump, his inner circle, and his finances. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News on Tuesday that this is all a "coordinated effort to take down the president." Meanwhile Meadows and his GOP colleagues are hotly anticipating Trump to declassify documents any day now that they believe will include transcripts between FBI informants and former Trump campaign associate George Papadopoulos. Former Rep. Trey Gowdy said over the weekend this has “the potential to be a game changer.”

At least three federal investigations into alleged FISA abuse and other matters related to the way the FBI and the Justice Department conducted the Trump-Russia investigation and several top ex-officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, are under increasing scrutiny. Asked by Hannity if he knows if Comey spied, Meadows said the former director was without a doubt privy to misconduct. "He actually he was aware of it. – he was aware of improper things that were being done, certainly," Meadows said.

Devin Nunes: Someone on foreign soil was 'running operations' against Trump campaign associates

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said on Wednesday he is certain that someone on foreign soil was "running operations" against the Trump campaign. The House Intelligence Committee ranking member was invited onto Fox News to discuss a letter he sent to President Trump with a list of questions to ask British Prime Minister Theresa May about the Steele dossier when he visits the United Kingdom next month.

Host Sean Hannity asked Nunes about the possibility that members of the U.S. intelligence community in the Obama administration "outsourced what would be illegal intelligence gathering" to allies such as the United Kingdom. "I think we can be sure about one thing and that is that on foreign soil, someone was running operations against Trump campaign people," Nunes said. "Now, we don't know if that was our government, if it was the British government, or if it was some type of firm of some kind that was doing it. But I think it is definitely a fact, Sean, that at least on British soil, possibly on Italian soil, there were activities going on that we need to get to the bottom of."

Nunes has been a leading critic of the FBI's use of British ex-spy Christopher Steele's dossier, filled with unverified claims about Trump's ties to Russia, to obtain Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants to wiretap onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. At least three federal investigations into alleged FISA abuse and other matters related to the way the FBI and the Justice Department conducted the Trump-Russia investigation and several top ex-officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, are under increasing scrutiny.

Nunes' letter, obtained by the Washington Examiner, cites a report from the Telegraph published over the weekend that said the leaders of MI5 and MI6, the United Kingdom’s top intelligence agencies, were briefed about Steele’s dossier shortly after the 2016 election, before Trump was told about them. One subject of Nunes' letter to Trump is Maltese academic Joseph Mifsud, the man who told former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos the Russians had damaging information about Clinton. Papadopoulos later repeated this claim to Australian diplomat Alexander Downer, who informed the U.S. government and prompted the original counterintelligence investigation into Trump's campaign in July 2016.

Although special counsel Robert Mueller's team portrayed Mifsud, London-based professor, as a Russian asset with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin in their 448-page report, Nunes says they decided to "cherry pick" information from news reports, leaving out that he is described as a Western intelligence asset. Nunes specifically noted that Mifsud has a lot of ties to U.S., British, and Italian intelligence services. Nunes told Hannity that he believes Mueller's team, which he dubbed the "Mueller dossier team," knew British intelligence had warned their U.S. counterparts about Steele's credibility. "I actually believe that Mueller knows that the Mueller dossier team knew that the Brits actually I think did give us some warning. But we can't get that information. I think there are things that Mueller knew about. I think the Brits probably did raise concerns about Steele's credibility to the new administration. But of course, we can't get those documents and it's what we continue to try to get," Nunes said. The congressman said he hopes U.S. Attorney John Durham, who has been tasked by Attorney General William Barr to review the origins of the Russia investigation, will be able to get the answers he seeks. The Justice Department and House Intelligence Committee struck a deal on Wednesday to allow the panel access to counterintelligence material underlying Mueller's work.
