I think she got bad news out of the US, my guess is some dems revolted against impeachment, so the last glimmer of hope that POTUS would be marginalized was gone. Reaction was to resign.
EU, however, doesn't want the optics of the reality of the UK leaving before the EU parliament elections running throughout the weekend. EU heavies in this case being Merkel & Macron. Macron, especially, since the French would like nothing better than applying May's fate to Macron. There would be a pile on effect by EU rejectionists.
I think the POTUS visit to UK and meeting with Charles is to finalize surrender terms, i.e., what will be included in DECLAS. Who gets outed and who gets leniency for good behavior.
