>Apparently that was the purpose of prohibition.
Yeah. For quite sometime making booze was something that the people did for themselves… Kind of like owning gold and shit. Until they made it illegal. So, the mafia took control of the business.
Flash forward a few years and thousands of lives later. Alcohol becomes legal again… Only now the business becomes "government-regulates". Which basically means that the crooked-ass "politicians" are accepting bundles of loot, via "lobbyists", from these mob bosses to make sure that no one else is making money in this business that's now in the hands of the most ruthless of individuals :( who were often involved in international drug-trade and worse): …
When you look into the alcohol business and see who's in control, along with some of the other connections they have (like to the C_A), it's really no surprise to see alcoholism embedded into cultures like pro-sports, hollywood and the music industry.., because they're all run by mobsters (of rather spoiled little brats of former mobsters). Motha fuckin' American dream, yo… Bunch of dumb-ass criminals writing our laws to protect the wealth of their corrupt-ass families… I'm sure these mother fuckers are also heavily invested in the private-prison systems… Which is one of the main reasons why weed is still classified on "federal level" as having "no medical value", despite being approved for medicinal use in several U.S. States (Big Pharma also lobbies against it… Although now that they're starting to invest in the industry, patent strains, etc., states are approving large scale manufacturing for corporate entities to the tune of quarter million dollar applications…)
