I think it may have had to do with timing….If DC dirty, hand off to him would have alerted DS and POTUS would be at risk. I think POTUS kept DC out of the loop to ensure DC could not alert a "last resort" cleanup crew in the event of pre-knowledge of what time the news would drop. Pretty sure POTUS was either already in Japan, or was already aboard AF1 and airborne.

Yep, saw it. How interdasting. I had not seen the official schedule when I made that presumption. There were some discrepencies with the time listed on some articles that claimed POTUS was already there or had arrived there…pic related
