Tillerson was, in HR terms, a hatchet man. His political strength in XOM involved things like undercutting potential rivals. And I think he weakened some would-be potentates within State, which needed to be done.

But fundamentally Tillerson had a globalist agenda and probably wouldn't cut people that Trump wanted cut. So now Pompeo can step into a State Dept. that Tillerson already softened up, and remold it Trump style.

I don't follow this. It's been many months, plenty of time for evidence to be seized, more followup to happen, and Comey (knowing they've got him dead to rights) to negotiate a way out.

I bet they got a lot of stuff they didn't have before, because they were able to seize the contents of his office. As I recall Trump had someone scouring that office that very day of the firing.

Fine. And he had to do that, or accept a worse deal than he would otherwise, because they got so much information that he wasn't able to hide.

Heh that's like what happened when that third party candidate demanded a recount of Michigan. We saw the votes in Detroit (certainly Hillary votes) being counted 6 times or more thru the voting machines.

Oh cry me a river. He was told he was being fired while he was in Africa. He asked for the news to be held a while and then insulted Africa, claiming food poisoning as his excuse to return to the USA.

He wanted to be in charge of the NK negotiations. Trump didn't want him in that role, and given his performance with Iran, that makes perfect sense.

So Tillerson kept pushing for negotiations, but Trump didn't agree until he was ready to fire him before those negotiations.

Tillerson cries the tears of a man whose sneaky plan has been derailed.

He notified Tillerson several days ago when Tillerson was in Africa, and Tillerson asked for the news to be held a while. But yeah, Trump did tweet it today, maybe to get out ahead of Tillerson.

Many things don't make sense.

(1) a college, so what?

(2) just visiting Africa isn't such a big deal, Tillerson didn't even have most of his planned meetings

(3) releasing a cure for AIDS so far has no known connection to the State Dept.

(4) Tillerson seemed pretty surprised about it all, and neither was very gracious to the other.

I think Tillerson is essentially a jerk. The corporate world is full of them. At XOM he got ahead by sabotaging rivals. Maybe he had a special in to get hired there. He wasn't a chemical engineer or petroleum engineer, but just a civil engineer.

He hopefully softened up some fiefdoms at State, of course he had his own diversity based plans to rebuild it, but now it won't get rebuilt that way. :)

Wonder if Kim Jong Un will still feel the same about negotiations now. Still many games, ups and downs to go there. But he can't really complain because Trump doesn't kill his rivals, he just fires them.
