Rep. Jerry Nadler, top Trump inquisitor, falls ill during NYC press conference

Rep. Jerry Nadler, who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and is leading several investigations into President Trump's conduct, fell ill during a press conference he was hosting with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. The New York Democrat was attended to by medical personnel, and the room was cleared. Reporters at the press conference said he was given water, an orange, and appears to be OK.

Nadler and de Blasio were slated to speak at the news conference about speeding cameras in New York City. Nadler represents the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a liberal enclave, and parts of Brooklyn. As House Judiciary Committee chairman, Nadler has been a virulent critic of Trump, suggesting impeachment may be necessary in light of the Mueller report's findings on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. Nadler would preside over any potential impeachment proceedings.

Science deals a setback to Obamacare's transgender rule

As hard as the social justice movement tries to erase the meaning of words as we all know them, we're not quite there yet and the Trump administration's reversal of an Obama-era rule on healthcare demonstrated that on Friday. A new rule proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services undoes a previous one by the Obama administration, which essentially said that the terms "sex" and "gender" are interchangeable, even as liberals have pressed to make a distinction between the two for years.

When Obamacare was passed, it prohibited the discrimination of medical care "on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability." The Obama administration then said that discrimination on "sex" included "gender," and therefore any man or woman claiming to identify as the opposite gender was entitled to the same protection. Facilities that performed sex-based procedures, then, could not deny those same services to a transgender person, who, for example, might elect to have her uterus removed as part of transitioning to "male."

Now the Department of Health and Human Services has decided that, no, anti-discrimination law does not require this. There will, of course, be legal action to stop the Trump administration's reversal, but science is not on the social justice crowd's side and medicine is a science-based field. Sex is by every measure determined by a person's biological physical makeup. Reproductive organs determine an individual's sex, not his or her beliefs, feelings, or dysphoria.

In an ideal, free country, anyone can determine how they want to live, how they want to dress, and what gender pronouns they prefer for themselves. What do you know? We already live in that country! But it's entirely something else to demand that science-based professions disregard the exact meaning of words (like "male" and "female") in order to conduct human experiments deemed unnecessary, perhaps unsafe, and nonetheless, a little shudder-inducing. That's what the new rule reversal aims to prevent. When the legal system kicks in, we'll find out if words still have meaning.

Trump says he 'declassified potentially millions of pages of documents' from Russia investigation

President Trump said he “declassified potentially millions of pages of documents” related to the origins and conduct of the Trump-Russia investigation. Addressing the media Friday afternoon, Trump touted his decision to give Attorney General William Barr “full and complete authority to declassify information” related to the origins of the federal investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Barr “can then show them to the public, do whatever he wants to do with them," Trump said, adding, "I just want him to be fair" and the he wants to be "transparent."

The move is the strongest sign yet that Trump is taking serious action to “investigate the investigators” and has found a willing champion in Barr, who rankled Democrats last month when he said “spying did occur” against the Trump campaign. Trump said letting Barr declassify these documents will allow the American people "to able to see how this hoax or witch hunt started and why it started." Trump claimed that this was "an attempted coup or an attempted takedown of the president of the United States." “I think it’s very important for our country to find out what happened,” Trump said.

The White House issued a memorandum to the heads of several agencies Thursday evening instructing them to cooperate with Barr's inquiry, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Department, the State Department, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Treasury Department, the Homeland Security Department, and the Energy Department.

Pregnant Middle Eastern Women Delivering ‘Anchor Babies’ in Chicago

Pregnant Middle Eastern women are taking advantage of the United States’ policy that gives foreign nationals the ability to secure American citizenship for their children so long as they are born within the parameters of the country.

A local report by ABC 7 Chicago detailed how pregnant foreign nationals are traveling to the U.S. to deliver their children to ensure that they are given American citizenship. One doctor who spoke with ABC 7 Chicago, Dr. Mia Norlin, said most of the women she sees in Chicago hospitals taking advantage of the country’s birthright citizenship policy are from the Middle East. “Most of the patients I’ve taken care of are from Middle Eastern countries,” Dr. Norlin said. “We looked into it to make sure that it was legal … it’s different than most of our patients.”

The report noted that websites advertising to help foreign pregnant women come to the U.S. to deliver their children often offer six-figure packages. As Breitbart News has chronicled, in Florida, pregnant Russian women have fueled a baby boom in regions of the state as they arrive in the country to make sure their children get U.S. citizenship. The U.S.-born children of foreign nationals, specifically those visiting the U.S. and illegal aliens, are commonly known as “anchor babies.” There are at least 4.5 million anchor babies in the country, a population that exceeds the total number of annual American births in 48 states, as about 300,000 anchor babies are born every year. Currently, the U.S. and Canada are the only developed nations in the world that offer unrestricted birthright citizenship. About one-in-five U.S. births — or 791,000 — are to legal and illegal immigrant mothers, with legal immigrant mothers accounting for about 12.4 percent of those births and illegal alien mothers accounting for 7.5 percent.

The U.S. Supreme Court has never explicitly ruled that the children of illegal aliens must be granted automatic American citizenship, and many legal scholars dispute the idea. Trump promised last year to end birthright citizenship through executive action, but the order has yet to be revealed or signed. In a recent birth tourism crackdown, federal immigration officials revealed that three birth tourism companies allegedly helped more than 8,500 anchor babies secure American citizenship. In the process, the three companies profited at least $7 million.

Obama-Appointed Judge Who Upheld Committee’s Subpoena of Trump Donated to Democrats on Committee

A federal judge in New York who ruled that banks must comply with subpoenas from House Democrats has a history of donating to Democrats, including Congressmen and women who sit on the House Financial Services and Intelligence Committees. U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos, who was appointed by President Barack Obama, said in his ruling on May 22 that the subpoenas, which seek records about Trump, his three oldest children, and their spouses, have “a legitimate legislative purpose.” Ramos, who like all judges had an opportunity to recuse himself if there was an appearance of bias, has donated to Democratic officials, including two that sit on the committees seeking information about Trump.

Federal election records show that Ramos donated $350 in 2008 to Jim Himes for Congress. Rep. Himes (D-Ct.) currently sits on the Intelligence and Financial Services Committees. Ramos donated $500 in 2010 to the re-election campaign for Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.). He had also donated $250 to her 2005 campaign. Velazquez currently sits on the Financial Services Committee. Ramos also donated $4,025 to Obama’s first campaign for president in addition to donating $1,000 to the 2007 campaign of Hillary Clinton, who was running against Obama at the time. Trump beat Clinton in 2016. His other donations include $1,000 to the Senate campaign of Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a $500 donation to Friends of Chris Dodd, a former Democratic Senator, and additional money to Obama’s campaign for re-election.

Ramos halted donations after being appointed by Obama to the federal court in 2011. Federal judges are supposed to be impartial but many have ruled against Trump only to see their rulings overturned by higher courts. The donations came to light after another recent ruling against Trump.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta said in a 41-page opinion on May 20 that Mazars USA, Trump’s former accounting firm, must comply with a subpoena from Congress and turn over financial records from as far back as 2011. The subpoena asked for records relating to Trump and various associated businesses and entities, citing Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who claimed that Trump would regularly inflate financial statements submitted to banks while deflating the value of certain assets in other cases. Congress essentially has free reign to investigate the president, Mehta wrote in his opinion. Mehta was appointed by Obama to the court in 2014. Federal election records show that Mehta donated to Obama’s first campaign in 2007 and added several thousand dollars in 2012 to Obama’s campaign for re-election. Mehta also appeared to halt political donations after being appointed as a federal judge.

Trump has noted the background of some judges ruling against him, hitting at Mehta specifically after the ruling. “Well, we disagree with that ruling. It’s crazy—because you look at it; this never happened to any other President. They’re trying to get a redo,” he said, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, which ultimately found no evidence of collusion between the Trump 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. Throughout the nearly two-year investigation, Democrats leaned heavily on an expectation that Mueller would find collusion. “They’re trying to get what we used to call in school: a deal—a ‘do-over.’ And if you look, you know, we had no collusion, we had no obstruction. We had no nothing. The Democrats were very upset with the Mueller report, as perhaps they should be,” he said in Washington before departing for a rally Pennsylvania. “But, I mean, the country is very happy about it because there was never anything like that. And they’re trying to get a redo, or a do-over, and you can’t do that. As far as the financials are concerned, we think it’s totally the wrong decision by, obviously, an Obama-appointed judge. He was a recent Obama-appointed judge.” Trump’s legal team filed an appeal after Mehta’s ruling.
