the tape would advance when you hit a button and that would fire relays till a stop. and then the next button push would fire the next set of relays. If you wanted to do a 'for' loop you could take a small segment of tape, loop it around, use scotch tape, and then reproduce it as many times as needed on a longer piece.

The most important rule: if you turned it on, you had to turn it off later.
