Trump admin investigating religious discrimination claims after Chick-fil-A excluded from airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation into two airports after they excluded Chick-fil-A from facilities.

"The Department of Transportation has received complaints alleging discrimination by two airport operators against a private company due to the expression of the owner’s religious beliefs," and the FAA said in a statement Friday.

"FAA’s Office of Civil Rights has notified the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) and Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) that it has opened investigations into these complaints," the administration added, noting that operators cannot exclude people on a religious basis if they receive FAA funds.

Chick-fil-A was not named in the statement.

Federal judge partially blocks funding for Trump's border wall

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on Friday, partially blocking President Trump's plan to fund a border wall with Mexico with money from the Defense Department.

California U.S. District Court Judge Haywood Gilliam issued the order, which does not fully halt construction, but would limit it to specific areas along the border. It would also block the transfer of about $1 billion in Pentagon funds from various projects to pay for the construction of a wall.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had filed the motion in federal court in California, as part of an ongoing lawsuit brought forward on behalf of the Sierra Club and the Southern Border Communities Coalition, challenging Trump’s national emergency declaration.

In a statement, ACLU staff attorney Dror Ladin, who argued the case, called the ruling "a win for our system of checks and balances."

“This order is a win for our system of checks and balances, the rule of law, and border communities. The court blocked all the wall projects currently slated for immediate construction. If the administration begins illegally diverting additional military funds, we'll be back in court to block that as well.”

Trump made an emergency declaration earlier this year to circumvent Congress and reallocate funding from the Defense Department to begin work on the wall.

A wall along the U.S.-Mexico border was one of Trump's campaign promises and has been at the center of policy debates during his presidency.

Haywood was appointed by former President Obama.

=Giuliani meets with former Ukrainian diplomat to get info on Dems=

President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani met with a former Ukrainian diplomat last week in an attempt to get information to hurt Democrats.

Giuliani told The Washington Post that he met with Andrii Telizhenko, who has reportedly made unproven assertions that the Democratic National Committee worked with the Kiev government in 2016 to find information on then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, which the DNC denied.

“He was in Washington and he came to New York, and we spent most of the afternoon together,” Giuliani told the Post, but declined to say what they discussed.

“I can’t tell you a thing about the meeting,” he said. “When I have something to say, I’ll say it.”

Telizhenko confirmed the meeting to the Post but did not go into detail.

"We spoke on U.S.-Ukraine relations and politics in D.C. and Ukraine,” he said.

U.S. Startup Accuses Huawei Executive Of Involvement In Trade-Secrets Theft: Wall Street Journal

A Silicon Valley chip startup has accused a top executive of China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Deputy Chairman Eric Xu, of participating in a conspiracy to steal its trade secrets, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing court documents.

Huawei had filed a lawsuit in 2017, accusing CNEX Labs Inc and its co-founder Ronnie Huang, a former employee of a Huawei unit, of poaching Huawei employees and stealing Huawei’s trade secrets and intellectual property to build CNEX.

CNEX has said in counterclaims that Huawei misappropriated its technology. It had accused Huawei of enlisting a Chinese university professor working on a research project to improperly access the startup’s technology.

Huawei said in a statement on Thursday the allegations against Xu were “groundless”. CNEX did not respond to requests for comment.

Trial on the two sets of allegations is set for June 3 in the Eastern District of Texas.

In April, Judge Amos Mazzant, who is hearing the case, declined to allow further legal discovery on allegations of Xu’s involvement.

Don't forget Lois Lerner (LL?):

New IRS Documents Show Lerner Did Not Need Conservative Group Donor Lists – Emails Mention “Secret Research Project” by Top IRS Official

SEPTEMBER 04, 2014

Documents also reveal that 75% of targeted non-profit groups were conservative, just 5% were liberal

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released a new batch of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) email documents revealing that under former IRS official Lois Lerner, the agency seems to acknowledge having needlessly solicited donor lists from non-profit political groups. According to a May 21, 2012, memo from the IRS Deputy Associate Chief Counsel: “such information was not needed across-the-board and not used in making the agency’s determination on exempt status.” Later, in her May 10, 2013, remarks in which Lerner first revealed in response to question she planted about the IRS targeting of conservative groups, she conceded that the requests for donor names was “not appropriate, not usual.” The new documents obtained by Judicial Watch also reveal that 75% of the groups from whom the lists were solicited were apparently conservative, with only 5% being liberal.

The documents came in response to an October 2013 Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (Judicial Watch, Inc. v. Internal Revenue Service (No. 1:13-cv-01559)) filed against the IRS after the agency refused to respond to four FOIA requests dating back to May, 2013. The emails are contained in the sixth batch of documents the IRS has been forced to produce in response to the Judicial Watch FOIA lawsuit.

FBI says Shasta woman kidnapped two Ohio children. She calls it a rescue from abuse

The FBI has arrested a Shasta woman on charges of kidnapping two children last year – one from the campus of Father Flanagan’s Boys Town in Nebraska – giving them new names and taking them to live in her Northern California home.

The suspect, Sylvia Clara Simonsen, 57, made a brief appearance in federal court in Sacramento Friday afternoon and was ordered held in Sacramento County Main Jail pending a preliminary hearing set for June 7.

A criminal complaint and affidavit filed in court describe a bizarre sequence of events in which Simonsen allegedly kidnapped the children, possibly because she believed she was rescuing them from abuse.

“I know she didn’t kidnap anybody,” her sister, Sue, said after court. “It was just rescue. She saved them.”
