Yes there is sin. But yes the religions distorted the truth about sin to control the masses.
You can call it something else if you want, but to me "sin" is another word for "evil." And there is definitely "evil" or we wouldn't be here.
The only people who don't want us to to concern ourselves with "sin" (or "evil") are the Satanists. They don't think we should fight against an "evil" inclination because we are supposed to incorporate it and balance it.
We have all done something hurtful to others or thoughtless or self-destructive. That is "sin" because it is evil, to some degree or another. And those of us who have decided to venture on a path towards God don't accept these evil inclinations, but we choose to fight against them and expel them and become better as spiritual beings every single day, as we come to understand ourselves better and come to understand God better.
Only a Satanist would say there is no sin or someone brainwashed by the Satanists (like most atheistic people).
