Cooler heads among the US population and the army will not allow hardliners to steer the country into an open war with Iran, a senior military official in Tehran said amid growing tensions in the Persian Gulf.

“We believe rational Americans and their experienced commanders will not let their radical elements lead them into a situation from which it would be very difficult to get out, and that is why they will not enter a war,” Brigadier General Hassan Seifi, an assistant to the nation’s army chief, told Mehr News Agency on Saturday.

The defense official said that throughout the years the US “was able to accurately assess the strength of our armed forces,” and for that reason has never tried to attack Iran directly.

He added that Washington will not wage an open war against Tehran because its army will inflict great losses on the American troops and deliver a blow to Washington’s “international prestige.”

The US earlier deployed three guided-missile destroyers, the USS Mason, USS McFaul, and USS Gonzalez, to the Persian Gulf. They joined the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, currently operating off the coast of Oman, near the Gulf. This military buildup near Iranian waters coincided with reports of the Pentagon mulling sending more troops to Iraq, which borders Iran.

Relations between Iran and the US deteriorated dramatically after President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the nation from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program last year and re-imposed sanctions. The move was slammed by a number of countries, including Washington’s closest allies.

Police Found Complicit in Conspiracy to Cover Up Massive Child Sex Ring in Catholic Church

Philadelphia, PA — For those who have been keeping up with the child sex abuse scandal in the Catholic church that erupted late last year in Pennsylvania, many have been wondering how it was allowed to go on for so long without anyone getting charged or arrested. Now, it appears that we have the answer—the police were complicit. But it wasn’t just in Pennsylvania, we are also learning it was elsewhere in places like Buffalo, New York.

“Priests were raping little boys and girls, and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing; they hid it all,” according to the report of the Pennsylvania grand jury. And police went along with it.

During a grand jury report into the child sex abuse by priests in Pennsylvania last year, the state Attorney General, Josh Shapiro provided insight into how priests were allowed to go on for decades preying on children. He singled out the two groups responsible for covering up the crimes of the church.

One of the groups named by the AG was the Catholic Church hierarchy like the archbishops and cardinals who reacted to allegations of child rape by simply transferring the priest to a new church or failing to act at all. The other group Shapiro named was law enforcement, who he says acted in tandem with the abusive priests to keep their horrific habits from ever reaching the public eye.

“The abuse scarred every diocese,” he said. “The cover-up was sophisticated. The church protected the institution at all costs.”

Not only did the church protect pedophile priests, but the investigation revealed a “failure of law enforcement,” according to Shapiro.

According to the investigation, at the same time the church was covering up the abuse by protecting the pedophiles, it also had assistance from police or district attorneys who aided in covering it up as well. Sometimes this aid was in the form of looking the other way, while other times, it involved actively thwarting investigations.

One District Attorney was even caught on record deliberately blocking investigations into the rape of young boys by priests. In 1964, Beaver County district attorney Robert Masters was presented with evidence that a Catholic priest was raping several young boys. However, he blocked the investigation to prevent “unfavorable publicity.”

CNN Lays Off Almost Entire Division, Surprises Employees As ‘Crazy Rumor’ Comes True

CNN laid off almost all of its health care coverage division Tuesday, in a move the network called a “crazy rumor” less than three weeks ago.

While Dr. Sanjay Gupta is expected to keep his job, most of the rest of the division, based out of Atlanta, were released.

TVNewser, a media watchdog site started by CNN’s Brian Stelter, managed to get confirmation from the network — just in time for a Friday news dump.

“As part of the normal course of business, our newsgathering team made a small restructure earlier this week that ultimately impacts 6-7 employees within CNN’s Health Unit,” a CNN spokesperson told TVNewser’s A.J. Katz.

Many health department staffers met with human resources on Tuesday. Katz noted that correspondent Elizabeth Cohen is also safe.

Katz told Fox News that three divisions—CNN Health, CNN Climate, and the network’s Atlanta-based Southeast Bureau—will be combined into one.

Employees are “shocked,” Fox News reported, because CNN Health “is considered successful” and the network had just firmly denied layoff rumors earlier this month. In fact, executive vice president Allison Gollust told Fox News on May 7 that there were “no mass layoffs” in the works.

“I have no idea where that crazy rumor came from,” she said. “We have recently offered a voluntary buyout option for employees, and just over 100 people voluntarily decided to take it. That’s it. We have nearly 4,000 people at CNN … and around 100 of them exercised the option for a program that was offered. That’s it. Those are the facts.”

Interestingly, an anonymous media figure told The Daily Wire that the unit was “one of the few departments that wasn’t focused on anti-Trump stuff.”

600,000 Migrants Enter Britain in One Year

More than 600,000 migrants arrived in the United Kingdom in 2018 — akin to the population of a city the size of Belfast.

The data, released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), said that over a quarter of a million more people arrived with the intention of staying 12 months than left in 2018.

In total over the previous 12 months, 602,000 new people migrated to Britian, while 343,000 emigrated — showing a continued strong trend towards overall net migration, totalling 258,000 people.

The UK also granted asylum, alternative forms of leave, or resettlement to 17,304 people in the year ending March 2019 — an increase on the previous year.

The ONS report said that “Since 2016, the pattern of migration to the UK for work has been changing. Long-term immigration to the UK for work has fallen, mainly driven by the decline in EU arrivals. Despite this, 99,000 EU citizens still came to the UK long-term to work in 2018, a level similar to 2012. We are also seeing the number of skilled work visas for non-EU citizens increasing, although overall non-EU work-related immigration has remained broadly stable.”

Alp Mehmet, vice chairman of the pressure group Migration Watch UK, said: “Overall net migration remains at more than a quarter of a million — still unacceptably high. And despite the uncertainty during 2018, nearly 75,000 more EU arrived than left, as well as 232,000 non-EU nationals.

“The clear message in these figures for the next Prime Minister is that they must make it a priority to deliver on the government’s pledge to reduce immigration levels by a lot, in line with the public’s wishes.”

At Christmas, the Home Office released a report about their plans for migration in the coming year which included more work visas. Migration Watch said at the time that “there are, literally, no measures to reduce net migration, now running at 270,000 a year”, adding that it “seems certain that these proposals would allow a massive increase in the number of people entering the UK for work, and [it is] inevitable that many of these would find ways to stay long-term. This is not control. It is an illusion of control.”

This comes despite Conservative Party manifesto pledges in three successive elections that net migration would be reduced “from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands”.

Maine governor signs bill to remove religious, philosophical vaccine exemptions

Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) has reportedly signed a bill ending most non-medical exemptions for mandatory childhood vaccines, just days after the first confirmed measles case hit the state.

House Democrats in the state said Friday that Mills had signed the bill, according to multiple local reports. The law eliminates religious and philosophical exemptions in Maine, local ABC affiliate WMTW reported.

Under the new law, only doctors and pediatric primary care givers can determine if a child should receive a medical exemption.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention will also release reports on safety and effectiveness of vaccines for transparency, the outlet noted.

Maine becomes the fourth state to eliminate religious exemptions for vaccine requirements, joining California, Mississippi and West Virginia.

The new law will go into effect 90 days after the state legislature adjourns, WMTW noted. Unvaccinated students already enrolled in schools have until 2021 to get their required vaccines.

The state legislature voted on the legislation earlier this month, with supporters arguing that non-medical exemptions are a public health risk that especially targets people with weakened immune systems.

Opponents argued that the bill infringes on a parent’s right to make medical or religious choices for their children.

“We are pushing religious people out of our great state,” state Sen. Lisa Keim (R) said earlier this month, according to the the Portland Press Herald. “And we will also be closing the door on religious people who may consider making Maine their home. We are fooling ourselves if we don’t believe an exodus would come about.”

Maine has one of the highest rates of non-medical vaccine exemptions in the country.

The kindergarten vaccination opt-out rate was 5.6 percent for the 2018-2019 school year, more than three times the national average of 1.8 percent, according to the Press Herald.

The measles outbreak spreading across the country has now hit 25 states, with Maine becoming the latest state to see a confirmed case.

The nationwide outbreak is the largest since measles was declared eliminated in 2000.

Maine is also battling an outbreak of whopping cough, which can be combated with a vaccine.

Multiple Michigan Priests Arrested, Charged With Sex Abuse

LANSING, Mich. (ChurchMilitant.com) - Five former Catholic priests from Michigan have been charged on multiple counts of rape and assault of minors and adults.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel made the announcement at a press conference Friday morning, detailing the names and allegations against each priest, arrested in the past 30 hours in various parts of the country, but all formerly assigned in Michigan dioceses. A total of 21 charges of criminal sexual conduct have been filed against the men, with four arrests and another pending extradition, as the fifth priest lives in India.

Father Jacob Vellian, former priest from the Lansing diocese, is being charged with rape of a victim under the age of 16, and continuing his assaults when the victim became an adult. Vellian, 84 years old, is also facing complaints involving sex abuse of nuns in India.

Nessel clarified that they have not yet arrested him, but "we've located him and we'll be making efforts to extradite him."

Two Detroit priests have been arrested.

Father Neil Kalina, formerly of St. Kieran Church in Shelby Township, was arrested on four counts of criminal sexual conduct involving the same victim, who was assaulted at the age of 13, and again between the ages of 13–15. Kalina had gotten in trouble with the law in 1985, at the age of 30, arrested for supplying minors with cocaine, marijuana and alcohol in his rectory.

Obama White House secretly gave Iran access to US financial systems: GOP report

A Senate subcommittee report alleges that the Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access to U.S. financial systems by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal.

The report claims the Obama Treasury Department issued a license to Bank Muscat to authorize "conversion of Iranian assets worth billions of U.S. dollars using the U.S. financial system."

“I think it’s part of a larger fraud of the Iran deal where it was presented as a treaty, but they made an end run around the Senate,” Wall Street Journal editorial board member Bill McGurn told FOX Business on Thursday.

President Donald Trump is calling for an investigation into the allegations outlined in the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report.

"The Obama Administration is now accused of trying to give Iran secret access to the financial system of the United States. This is totally illegal," Trump tweeted Thursday.

Former President Barack Obama once jokingly professed that his administration wasn’t plagued by scandals.

“I didn't have scandals, which seems like it shouldn't be something you brag about…No one in my White House ever got in trouble for screwing up as long as there wasn’t malicious intent behind it,” Obama said in May 2018.

McGurn said scandals are the norm in most administrations, but he finds the Obama administration's dealings with Iran in a category of its own that involve misleading Congress and the public.

“Many of their scandals were either manipulating or going around the rules as in this case,” he said.

Israel tacitly admits to punishing blameless civilians

Israeli avocado growers have been banned from accessing their greenhouses in Jordan Valley settlements, the Israeli government announced this week. The decision was made after settlers set fire to fields belonging to Palestinian farmers in Asira al-Qibliya village last Friday, causing damage but no injuries.

Of course nothing in the above paragraph is true – except that Israelis from the notorious Yitzhar settlement did in fact set fire to fields in Burin and Asira al-Qibliya, villages near Nablus in the north of the occupied West Bank on Friday.

Settlers also threw stones at Palestinian homes and fired guns into the air while soldiers looked on and did nothing.

Israeli who headed Colombia child prostitution ring arrested in Portugal

An ex-Israeli soldier wanted in Colombia for heading a child prostitution ring and sex trafficking offences has been arrested in Portugal.

Forty-five-year-old Assi Ben-Mosh – also known as Assi Moosh – was arrested near the Portuguese capital Lisbon on Wednesday during an operation by Spain’s Guardia Civil police force. The Guardia Civil said in a statement that Ben-Mosh is thought to have been hiding on the Spanish island of Ibiza, and then in Barcelona, before eventually being arrested in Portugal this week. It added that Ben-Mosh had been using a fake Israeli ID, the Times of Israel reported yesterday.

Ben-Mosh is wanted by Colombian authorities for running a child prostitution ring in the small fishing village of Taganga, located on the South American country’s Caribbean coast. He, along with a group of ex-Israeli soldiers, reportedly turned the luxury Benjamin Hostel into a “sex and drug den” in which more than 250 underage girls were subjected to sexual exploitation.

The Benjamin Hostel became known to locals as “little Israel”, and acted as a base from which Ben-Mosh ran similar clubs exploiting children in Cartagena, Medellín and the Colombian capital Bogotá. His empire is also thought to have extended to Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil.

In November 2017 Ben-Mosh was deported from Colombia after the authorities labelled him a threat to public order and the security of the state. At the time, local sources reported that he was arrested after arriving at the immigration office in nearby Santa Marta, accompanied by a group of armed men. It was believed he had been trying to obtain Colombian citizenship.

According to Colombia’s national police, Ben-Mosh had raised suspicion after it was discovered that his permits for tourism and hotel operation were obtained through a third party, enabling him to carry out criminal activities undetected for a decade. He was returned to Tel Aviv under escort by immigration officers.

However, in July 2018 Colombian authorities asked Interpol to arrest Ben-Mosh, believing he had continued to manage his illicit operations from afar despite his deportation. The international arrest warrant stated that Ben-Mosh was wanted for drug trafficking, money laundering and trafficking of human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

The call came after three Israelis and 15 others were arrested on suspicion of involvement in sex trafficking in the tourist city of Cartagena. They were arrested from Benjamin Hostel, another establishment of the same name as that run by Ben-Mosh in Taganga.

It is not yet clear whether Ben-Mosh will be extradited to Colombia following his arrest.

New undercover video shows sorting of aborted baby parts at Planned Parenthood

This morning, The Center for Medical Progress released an almost 12 minute documentary video that explores the market for aborted baby body parts. The footage shows the dissection of an 11-week aborted baby at a Colorado Planned Parenthood. The staff and potential parts buyer discuss the best way to provide compensation for harvesting and selling the organs and other body structures.

Also seen in the tape is Vice President and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Savita Ginde. Ginde concludes that receiving payment on a per organ removal basis will be most beneficial: “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

United States federal law states that it is a crime to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer human fetal tissue as part of a sale. The punishment for such an act is fines and/or up to 10 years in prison.

After identifying key body parts, Dr. Ginde praised the quality of the specimen, saying, “if I looked at that, I’d be like that’s good to go.” An unidentified Planned Parenthood assistant chimed in that the aborted baby parts were “five stars.”

Holly O’Donnell, a former technician at StemExpress, which purchases fetal organs from Planned Parenthood, says that in her position, “we were asked to procure certain tissues like brain, liver, thymus, panaceas, heart, lungs, and pretty much anything on the fetus.” She describes her first day on the job where she thought “what have I got myself into” when asked to pick out body parts from a dish at Planned Parenthood.

Live Action President Lila Rose condemned the abortion giant’s illegal and unethical practices.

“With this third investigative video, there can be no further denial from Planned Parenthood that the abortion giant is selling the body parts of the defenseless human beings it kills in its clinics,” Rose said. “The latest video shows the horror of abortion and how the doctors callously pick through baby body parts, discussing “intact” and “five-star” kidneys and spinal cords as if a price tag is attached to each.

Video shows Israel settlers started West Bank fires, contradicting army statement

Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem has released a video showing illegal Israeli settlers setting fire to fields in the occupied West Bank, contradicting the Israeli army’s claim that the blaze was started by Palestinians.

The Spokesperson’s Unit of the Israeli army was yesterday forced to change its original statement, in which it claimed to have extinguished “a fire set by Palestinians”.

The fires were started last Friday near the occupied West Bank villages of Burin, Urif and Asira Al-Qibliya, all located off Route 60 south of Nablus. Illegal Israeli settlers from the nearby settlement of Yitzhar had attacked Palestinians from these villages, with both groups subsequently blaming the other for causing the fires which followed.

Contradicting the Israeli army’s claim of Palestinian culpability, video footage released by B’Tselem showed “two Israeli [settlers] — one of them armed with a Tavor assault rifle — entering grasslands, crouching down and walking away. Moments later, flames can be seen in the area where they’d been standing,” the Times of Israel reported.

B’Tselem added that “[Israeli] soldiers who were standing next to [the settlers] did not arrest them and prevent[ed] the Palestinians from reaching their burning lands”. In a separate video, settlers can also be seen throwing rocks at nearby Palestinian homes while four Israeli soldiers stand idly by.

B’Tselem stressed that the Israeli army had granted “almost total immunity” to the settlers involved in the attacks, noting that none were interrogated or arrested following the incident.

Although the Israeli army today issued a new statement saying “several fires were set and quickly spread” and that, “in addition to the fires, some 20 settlers went down to the outskirts of Asirah Al-Qibliyah and began throwing rocks,” it did not admit its attempts to cover up the settlers’ attacks. The Israeli army also refused to comment on why no settlers had been arrested for the arson.

This is not the first time the Israeli army has been found to have covered up settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Last month, B’Tselem found that the army had covered up the killing of 23-year-old Mohammed Abd Al-Fatah, who was shot by illegal settlers near Huwara – again located off route 60 – on 3 April. Though media reports at the time stated that a “would-be Palestinian attacker was shot dead […] during an attempted stabbing near Huwara,” B’Tselem’s investigation revealed that in fact Abd Al-Fatah was killed at close range by armed Israeli settlers.

B’Tselem detailed how, at 08:30 local time [06:30 GMT], Abd Al-Fatah “started throwing stones at cars bearing Israeli license plates”, one of which hit an Israeli settler’s car. The driver pulled over, “then two gunshots were heard, apparently fired from inside the vehicle”. The settler then got out of the car and “fired several more shots” at Abd Al-Fatah, with the help of a truck driver who had seen the incident and come to “assist” him.

Despite being transferred to hospital, Abd Al-Fatah later succumbed to his wounds, leaving behind his wife and young daughter.

Rockefeller University Has Admitted “There Were Warning Signs” That A Doctor Sexually Abused Children For Decades

Reginald Archibald, a former doctor and scientist at Rockefeller University Hospital, sexually abused many of his child patients for decades, and his employer had multiple “warning signs” about his behavior, according to a report released Thursday by Rockefeller.

The report is the result of an investigation into Archibald’s alleged misconduct that started in the fall of 2018, after a former patient lodged a complaint with the hospital. The investigation, conducted by a law firm hired by Rockefeller, reveals that the university also received many other complaints as far back as the early 1960s against Archibald, who worked at the hospital from the 1940s to the 1980s and died in 2007.

“What’s most outrageous is they knew going back for decades about this man, and what they did is typical of large institutions: They protected the institution over the safety and welfare of the children,” Paul Mones, an attorney representing 200 of Archibald’s former patients, told BuzzFeed News.

Archibald, a pediatric endocrinologist who studied and treated issues related to childhood growth and maturation, fondled young patients, had them masturbate, masturbated them until they ejaculated, pulled their erect penises, brushed his face against their genitals, touched them while having them sit naked in his lap, and took semen samples from them without any professional justification, according to the report. Archibald also published research that included photographs he’d taken of nude patients, ostensibly to document their growth and sexual maturation.

Several former patients told BuzzFeed News earlier this year that these doctor visits, which they stayed silent about for years, were traumatizing, humiliating, and life-altering. Two journals are now planning to acknowledge the patients’ allegations in the scientific record.

Archibald’s misconduct was apparently not confined to the doctor’s office. He also invited patients to his summer cabin in Canada, and a few of them told investigators that sexual abuse took place there, according to the report.

For its investigation, the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses and reviewed Archibald’s records, patient records, and other Rockefeller documents. Its report acknowledges that, at this point, many witnesses have died or do not remember what happened.

“With the benefit of hindsight, however,” it concludes, “and viewed in light of today’s greater knowledge of sexual abuse and current standards of appropriate practices and procedures for studies and treatment of children, there were warning signs that could have been seen, appreciated or further pursued earlier.”

Mones said the report’s findings verify his clients’ experiences with Archibald. But he criticized the report for at times attempting to rationalize the doctor’s misconduct. Also, he said, it downplayed the university’s failure to act on concerns about him.

Merck Created Hit List to “Destroy,” “Neutralize” or “Discredit” Dissenting Doctors

Merck made a "hit list" of doctors who criticized Vioxx, according to testimony in a Vioxx class action case in Australia. The list, emailed between Merck employees, contained doctors' names with the labels "neutralise," "neutralised" or "discredit" next to them.

According to The Australian, Merck emails from 1999 showed company execs complaining about doctors who disliked using Vioxx. One email said:

We may need to seek them out and destroy them where they live …

The plaintiffs' lawyer gave this assessment:

It gives you the dark side of the use of key opinion leaders and thought leaders … if (they) say things you don't like to hear, you have to neutralise them … It does suggest a certain culture within the organisation about how to deal with your opponents and those who disagree with you.

The court was told that James Fries, professor of medicine at Stanford University, wrote to the then Merck head Ray Gilmartin in October 2000 to complain about the treatment of some of his researchers who had criticised the drug.

"Even worse were allegations of Merck damage control by intimidation," he wrote, … "This has happened to at least eight (clinical) investigators … I suppose I was mildly threatened myself but I never have spoken or written on these issues."

The allegations come on the heels of revelations that Merck created a fake medical journal– the Australasian Journal of Bone and Joint Medicine – in which to publish studies about Vioxx; had pop songs commissioned about Vioxx to inspire its staff, and paid ghostwriters to draft articles about the drug.

US pressures to prevent China companies from operating in Israel

The US is pressuring Israel to prevent Chinese companies from entering Israeli facilities.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton addressed this issue during his visit to Israel in January, and warned against the entry of Chinese technology companies, such as Huawei and ZTE, to the Israeli market, Haaretz reported yesterday.

The US warnings come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to boost trade ties with China, but at the same time is facing US pressure. The Marker newspaper reported this week that the Cabinet abstained from setting up a special committee to monitor China’s technology and investment, despite US pressures. The report added that Israel is now seeking an approach that appeases America.

Haaretz revealed that a new deal regarding the Israeli national infrastructure is being discussed, including the establishment of a seawater desalination facility, the largest of its kind in the world.

Hong Kong-based Chinese company Hutchison has submitted a proposal to set up the facility. This company is competing with Israeli and joint Israeli-Spanish companies. The newspaper stated that Head of Security Department at the Israel Ministry of Defence, Nir Ben Moshe, recently expressed what has been described as a “firm reservation” against the selection of Hutchison to implement the desalination facility’s construction project.

The main reason behind the reservations regarding choosing the Chinese company is the sites proximity to security facilities. The desalination plant will be housed near an air base and only a few kilometres away from a nuclear power plant.

Vicious Cycle: The Pentagon Creates Tech Giants and Then Buys their Services

The US Department of Defense’s bloated budget, along with CIA venture capital, helped to create tech giants, including Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and PayPal. The government then contracts those companies to help its military and intelligence operations. In doing so, it makes the tech giants even bigger.

In recent years, the traditional banking, energy and industrial Fortune 500 companies have been losing ground to tech giants like Apple and Facebook. But the technology on which they rely emerged from the taxpayer-funded research and development of bygone decades. The internet started as ARPANET, an invention of Honeywell-Raytheon working under a Department of Defense (DoD) contract. The same satellites that enable modern internet communications also enable US jets to bomb their enemies, as does the GPS that enables online retailers to deliver products with pinpoint accuracy. Apple’s touchscreen technology originated as a US Air Force tool. The same drones that record breath-taking video are modified versions of Reapers and Predators.

Tax-funded DoD research is the backbone of the modern, hi-tech economy. But these technologies are dual-use. The companies that many of us take for granted–including Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and PayPal–are connected indirectly and sometimes very directly to the US military-intelligence complex.

A recent report by Open the Government, a bipartisan advocate of transparency, reveals the extent of Amazon’s contracts with the Pentagon. Founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, the company is now valued at $1 trillion, giving Bezos a personal fortune of $131 billion. Open the Government’s report notes that much of the US government “now runs on Amazon,” so much so that the tech giant is opening a branch near Washington, DC. Services provided by Amazon include cloud contracts, machine learning and biometric data systems. But more than this, Amazon is set to enjoy a lucrative Pentagon IT contract under the $10bn, Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure program, or JEDI. The Pentagon says that it hopes Amazon technology will “support lethality and enhanced operational efficiency.”

The report reveals what it can, but much is protected from public scrutiny under the twin veils of national security and corporate secrecy. For instance, all prospective host cities for Amazon’s second headquarters were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements.

But it doesn’t end there. According to the report, Amazon supplied surveillance and facial Rekognition software to the police and FBI, and it has pitched the reportedly inaccurate and race/gender-biased technology to the Department of Homeland Security for its counter-immigration operations. Ten percent of the subsidiary Amazon Web Services’ profits come from government contracts. Departments include the State Department, NASA, Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2013, Amazon won a $600m Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) contract with the CIA. C2S will enable deep learning and data fingerprinting. Amazon’s second headquarters will be built in Virginia, the CIA’s home-state. Despite repeated requests, the company refuses to disclose how its personal devices, like Amazon Echo, connect with the CIA.

But Amazon is just the tip of the iceberg.

Israel calls Hezbollah ‘strategic threat’ to provoke world against it: Nasrallah

The secretary general of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement says Israeli authorities have described his group as “a strategic threat” to the Tel Aviv regime in an attempt to mobilize support and provoke the international community against it.

Addressing his supporters via a televised speech broadcast live from the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Saturday evening, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated that the United States and the Zionist regime (of Israel) are conspiring against Hezbollah in a bid to weaken popular support for the movement.

He stressed that Hezbollah has stood firm in the face of US and Israeli hegemonic schemes for the Middle East region.

“The United States would have offered southern Lebanon to Israel if Hezbollah did not exist. Lebanon is not in a position of weakness. We are standing up for our rights concerning Sheba'a Farms, Kfarchouba village as well as the northern section of Ghajar [village],” Nasrallah said.

“Lebanon can stop the Zionist regime (of Israel) from plundering its oil and gas reserves,” the Hezbollah secretary-general added.

He further highlighted that his movement fully supports the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian right of return to their homes.

Nasrallah also called on people worldwide to turn out en masse for International Quds Day rallies.

Commenting on a forthcoming US-led conference in Bahrain next month in support of US President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal for “peace” between the Israeli regime and Palestinians, dubbed “the deal of the century,” Nasrallah emphasized that the initiative is aimed at liquidation of the Palestinian cause.
