I believe it shows that 'Amazon' has been a byword for the C_A since at least the 70's and probably before.
The 'Amazon' in the movie is full of Nazis and spies, not unlike the Cabal and Mr Bozo who we see running it today.
The book was written by William Golding and the movie was directed by John Schlesinger, both Jewish.
I don't know in whose interest it would have been to expose the name of the spy ring but I find it very interesting.
One of the themes of the movie seems to be Ashkenazi Jews vs Sephardic Jews. Lawrence Olivier (himself a Jew) plays 'Sel' the 'White Angel', a Nazi who murdered Jews in WWII.
The protagonist is played by Dustin Hoffman (also a Jew) who seems to represent Sephardic Jews in my reading.
