Three French citizens sentenced to death by Iraqi court for joining ISIS
A court in Iraq has sentenced three men to death after finding them guilty of joining Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), officials confirmed on Sunday.
A court official, who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity, said the trio were sentenced “after it was proven that they were members of the terrorist Islamic State organization.”
The men have 30 days to appeal their conviction.

The right-wing Lega Party is expected to make gains in the vote, winning up to 26 seats in the next European Parliament compared to the 6 seats it currently holds, according to some estimations.
EU voters are voting from Thursday to Sunday to elect new members of the 751-strong European Parliament. According to EU parliament data, more than 426 million European citizens are eligible to vote. Each country sets its own election day.

Judge Suspended Without Pay For Anti-Trump Comments In Court, Social Media
The Supreme Court of Utah upheld a six-month suspension without pay for a municipal judge who disparaged President Donald Trump on social media and during official judicial proceedings.
Taylorsville Justice Court Judge Michael Kwan undermined public confidence in the courts by intervening in the political process, the state Supreme Court concluded.
“Fulfillment of judicial duties does not come without personal sacrifice of some opportunities and privileges available to the public at large,” Utah Supreme Court Justice John Pearce wrote in an opinion upholding the sanctions against Kwan. “And as a person the public entrusts to decide issues with the utmost fairness, independence, and impartiality, a judge must at times set aside the power of his or her voice.”

Operation Shamrock
Operation Shamrock was a covert, domestic intelligence gathering operation that monitored telegraph communications. Shamrock began as a military intelligence program during World War II, but continued until the 1970s. The operation sparked controversy when details of Shamrock were leaked to the public after a government investigation in 1975. The government investigative committee claimed that Shamrock intended to monitor only messages that posed a threat to national security, but that it had free access to all wire traffic.
At its outset, Shamrock was a World War II military intelligence program. In the months before war broke out in Europe in 1939, the Army Signal Security Agency asked the three largest wire service companies, ITT World Communications, Western Union International, and RCA Global, for permission to tap their international cables to eavesdrop on foreign coded transmissions. The companies agreed, and Army Intelligence intercepted coded messages. Later, intelligence agents began to intercept all civilian and military wire traffic, both ciphered and plain-text.
hamrock continued, however, for nearly three decades after the end of World War II. At the war's end, Army Intelligence appealed to the major communications companies to continue their monitoring of international wire traffic. Their request was granted. When President Harry S. Truman created the National Security Agency (NSA) in 1952, the agency immediately took control of the ongoing telegraph communications monitoring. The program then acquired the code name Operation Shamrock. NSA authorities continued to monitor incoming and outgoing wire traffic from the monitoring station in New York. However, the transport of voluminous telegraph recording tape became difficult to transport. Technological advancements permitted the recording of the data on magnetic tapes, and to centralize the operation, the NSA created a New York office devoted to Shamrock. The office continued to operate until the mid 1970s, but the nature of monitoring and recording information changed significantly since the program's inception.

Coast Guard Interdicts 10 Cuban migrants and 2 suspected smugglers
KEY WEST, Fla.— The Coast Guard interdicted 10 Cuban migrants and two suspected smugglers Monday 12 miles off of Villa Clara Province, Cuba.
Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders received notification of an illegal departure of a 30-foot go-fast vessel with 12 people aboard in the vicinity of Villa Clara Province.
A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew located the vessel and vectored the Coast Guard Cutter Raymond Evans (WPC-1110) crew to the location where they embarked 10 males and two females. The Coast Guard cutter Evans crew repatriated the 10 Cuban migrants back to their home of origin. The two suspected smugglers were transferred into Homeland Security Investigations custody.

Coast Guard interdicts 50 Haitian migrants 46 miles north of Cap-Haïtien
MIAMI — The Coast Guard interdicted 50 migrants Monday approximately 46 miles north of Cap-Haïtien, Haiti.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered (WPC-1104) crew detected an overloaded 30-foot panga vessel and launched a smallboat crew to investigate. The smallboat crew then boarded the vessel and discovered 36 Haitian males and 14 Haitian females.
The Robert Yered crew safely embarked the migrants and sank the vessel to prevent a hazard to navigation. The Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant (WMEC-617) crew transferred the 50 Haitian migrants back to their country of origin.

We haven’t seen stock prices slide like this in a long time, and if this keeps up we could soon be looking at an avalanche. Our rapidly escalating trade war with China and more bad U.S. economic numbers pushed stocks down once again this week, and at this point the Dow Industrial Average has now fallen for five weeks in a row. We haven’t seen a losing streak this long since June 2011, and it is yet another indication that we have reached a major turning point. Some positive comments about China from President Trump on Friday helped to lift stocks a little, but it wasn’t enough to put stocks into the green for the week. Of course the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq are both working on losing streaks as well. According to CNBC, both of them have now declined for three weeks in a row…
But Friday’s gains were not enough to offset this week’s losses. The Dow dropped 0.7% this week to post its fifth consecutive weekly decline, its longest streak since 2011. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell a third straight week of losses, their longest slide since December 2018. The weekly losses come at a time when investors are growing more convinced that the trade war will take longer than expected to conclude and could hurt the economy.
Unfortunately, things are not likely to turn around any time soon. As I discussed yesterday, there is not much optimism that a trade deal with China will happen any time in the foreseeable future, and that is going to continually weigh on the economy.
