I 'd heard that years and years ago as a 'Vermont' cure but they would add a few tespoons of honey.
The other thing I do is if I get the blotches, the red, bumps that everyone has, I use the 'extra strength' baby diaper cream which is a zinc based thing and it seems to make those blotches disappear. They fade away. It's a white paste. I figure that whatever is reaction must just get sucked up by the zinc, don't really understand the chemistry but I read that in a 'home cures' book too, maybe 20 years ago by now.
so the data has been out there. the zinc cream is like what you see a life guard wear on his nose on a beach in the summer.
