I don’t take that sentence as being about a date. More about a person, and I think May didn’t do what the pope wanted.

I don’t have the article anymore, but he was in two locations that had serious sexual abuse happening and he escaped conviction of being involved. Article made it seem like he was oblivious. I took it as he was being politically and legally protected, maybe because of his adopted daughter.
