Marrero man accused in death of girlfriend's 2-year-old son
A Marrero man has been arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On April 24 at around 8:20 a.m., JPSO officers responded to reports of a medical emergency on Allo Avenue. Deputies met with 27-year-old Seth Redell, who directed them to an unresponsive child, identified as Hayden Umbenhower.
Redell told investigators he was the boyfriend of the child's mother and was caring for the child while she was out of town. Redell said the child had a minor fall near the back door of the home, causing him to lose consciousness. Redell said he carried the child to the shower and ran cold water on him in an effort to revive him. The child was taken to University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for severe internal head injuries.
While at Redell's home, officers a heavy odor of marijuana present, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and they also saw marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view. As a result, Redell was issued a summons for possession.
Under questioning, Redell told a detective what happened to the child, allegedly changed his story several times about how the child was actually injured.
On April 24, Redell was arrested for second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. The Sheriff’s Office said Redell has prior arrests for possession of marijuana and aggravated robbery in 2007 in Ohio.
University Hospital doctors determined that Hayden sustained subdural hematomas, brain swelling and retinal hemorrhaging in both eyes, which they said was consistent with signs of "shaken baby syndrome.”
On April 29, Hayden died.
A warrant was issued for Redell for second-degree murder. Detectives learned that he had bonded out of the JPCC on the cruelty charge and was living with his parents on Lake Erie in Harvey. He was taken into custody there and re-booked into the JPCC.

The medical bills for her young boy who was suffering from subdural hematomas, brain swelling, retinal hemorrhaging in both eyes began to climb Piper set up a Go Fund Me Page and set out a message via Twitter. Despite $30,000 dollars being raised by Piper’s fans and industry friends sadly her boy succumbed to his injuries. Through this tragedy Piper set up a non profit organization to help others going through the same thing and the young boys organs were donated to other sick children. His heart to a girl under 5 and his liver to a boy under 5. Both his kidneys went to a man in his 40’s.
Remarkably Piper managed to move forward after this event and get back to work. She is moving quickly up the charts and becoming one of the most sought after stars of 2016. She states that her idol is Sasha Grey and she want’s to take on 20 men at once to dethrone her idol’s title who took on 18, or 16.
