>Virginia Beach was suppose to do an ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL today!

The Virginia Beach Police had a workshop planned Saturday on mass shootings

The Virginia Beach Police Department had scheduled a free community workshop for Saturday morning on what to do during mass shootings. About 24 hours before the class, a disgruntled employee opened fire in a city building, killing 12 people, police said.

At least 36 people intended to attend the Active Threat Citizen Defense session, according to the department's Facebook page. The workshop has since been canceled, police said early Saturday.

The class was planned days before the shooting and highlighted the need to prepare for potential active threat situations.

"Having to face an armed individual with bad intentions is every person's worst nightmare," the class description said. "You can't stop evil, you can only respond to it. The aggressor's actions are not your fault; failure to plan and failure to train, is."

The class was aimed at enhancing preparedness for citizens to "rise to the occasion" during such situations.

The teachings would have included recognizing hostile situations, utilizing common items for defense and a "no-skills needed" maneuver to combat a gunman.

Bernie Sanders Blasts NRA, Calls for Gun Control After VA Beach Shooting

Sanders brought up the NRA and demanded more gun control in a tweet that was sent before details of the shooting had been reported.

On March 21, 2019 — less than one week after the mosque attack in Christchurch — Breitbart News reported Sanders’ calls for the U.S. to adopt New Zealand-style gun controls. Those controls include a ban on numerous commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles, pump shotguns, “high-capacity” magazines, and certain gun parts.

Sanders praised New Zealand gun controls, tweeting, “This is what real action to stop gun violence looks like. We must follow New Zealand’s lead, take on the NRA and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States.”

Justice Department Prepares to Launch Antitrust Investigation into Google

According to recent reports, the U.S. Justice Department is preparing to launch an antitrust investigation into Alphabet Inc.’s Google.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. Justice Department is preparing to begin an antitrust investigation into Google that could see the tech giant come under a new wave of scrutiny from regulators. According to people familiar with the matter, the antitrust division of the Justice Department has been gathering information and preparing for the investigation for weeks.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which shares antitrust authority with the Justice Department, has previously conducted antitrust investigations into Google on a broader scale but closed the investigation in 2013 with no action taken. Google did, however, make some voluntary changes to some of its business practices as a result of the investigation. https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2019/05/31/justice-department-launch-antitrust-google/

Pelosi promises 'ironclad case' against Trump

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told California Democrats that Congress would continue aggressive investigations into President Trump and the Trump administration, stopping short of calling for the beginning of an impeachment inquiry.

Addressing the California Democratic Party's annual convention in her home district, Pelosi cited former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

"In his report, Special Counsel Mueller warned us in the starkest terms that there was an attack on our election and an attack on our democracy," Pelosi said. "Why won't the president defend us from this attack?"

"What is the president covering up?" she asked. "We must investigate the president's welcoming of the assault on our democracy."

A single protestor shouting "Impeach!" soon became a few, then a few dozen, then perhaps a hundred, as Pelosi seemed to hint at a future inquiry.

"This isn't about politics, it isn't about partisanship, Democrats versus Republicans, no. It's about patriotism, it's about the sanctity of the constitution and it's about the future of our nation. We will go where the facts lead us. We will insist on the truth. We will build an ironclad case to act," Pelosi said.

"President Trump will be held accountable for his actions. In the Congress, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion, we will defend our democracy."

Pelosi and House Democratic leadership have played down talk of impeachment, even as a growing portion of the House Democratic caucus call for an inquiry. Pelosi told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday that the party had to be prepared to build a case.

"We have a defiance of the Constitution of the United States, and so when we go down this path, we have to be ready, and it has to be clear to the American people, and we have to hope that it’ll be clear to the Republicans in the United States Senate," she said Thursday, comments she echoed Saturday.

House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), who would chair impeachment hearings, said Friday he was conscious of the need to build public support for impeachment.

"Impeachment is a political act, and you cannot impeach a president if the American people will not support it," Nadler told WNYC. "The American people right now do not support it because they do not know the story. They don’t know the facts. We have to get the facts out. We have to hold a series of hearings, we have to hold the investigations."

At least 50 House Democrats have called for opening an impeachment inquiry. Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), is the only Republican who has called for impeachment.
