On that note about giving childbirth at home, I would stress caution to the extreme. Had my wife not had access to emergency procedures, she'd be dead, along with my first born. For that matter, I would have died as I was full breach.
Just something to think about with birthing. If modern medicine has done one thing right, it's delivering babies and preventing death during childbirth significantly.
