Denver employee that oversaw Hillary Clinton’s e-mail server granted immunity in probe
The New York Times reported that the U.S. Department of Justice has given a Platte River Networks employee immunity in his role for deleting Hillary Clinton’s e-mails last year.
Citing an unnamed law enforcement official and others briefed on the investigation, The Times named Paul Combetta as the Platte River computer specialist who used the software program BleachBit to delete the messages and later told the FBI that he realized he shouldn’t have.
Officials from the Justice Department and Platte River declined to comment on Friday.
Platte River, the Denver firm hired to host the Clinton family’s e-mail server four months after Hillary Clinton left her secretary of state post, has said it fully cooperated with the FBI and other government agencies during the investigation. “The FBI found neither any misconduct nor any security breach,” Platte’s attorney Kenneth Eichner told The Denver Post in August.
Last Friday, the FBI released a trove of documents from its investigation into Clinton’s use of classified information on the personal server. This revealed publicly that an unnamed Platte River employee used BleachBit to delete e-mails in March 2015 though, when interviewed by the FBI in May, “he was aware of the existence of the preservation request and the fact that it meant he should not disturb Clinton’s e-mail data on the PRN Server.”
