Clashes erupt at Al-Aqsa compound after settler ‘tour’

Israeli police chased and assaulted a number of worshippers, including a mosque guard and banned medics from providing medical help

Clashes erupted between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli forces at East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Sunday during a settler ‘tour’ at the flashpoint site, according to the Jerusalem Waqf (religious endowments) Agency, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the agency said Israeli police allowed more than 400 Israeli settlers into the compound, a rare visit during the final days of the fasting month of Ramadan, which will end this week.

Hundreds of worshippers chanted Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest) in an expression of anger at the settler tour at the flashpoint compound, the statement said.

Orwellian Future: Facial Recognition & Mass Surveillance Is Coming To U.S. Schools

We are staring our Orwellian future right in the face. Beginning in New York, facial recognition is coming to schools in the United States and it’ll be switched on for testing next week.

The dystopian future George Orwell warned about in his accidental historical predictions book, 1984, has arrived. According to an article by Engadget, the Lockport City School District in New York will start testing a facial and object recognition system called “Aegis” on June 3rd. According to BuzzFeed News, that will make it the first in the U.S. to pilot a facial recognition mass surveillance system on its students and faculty.

The district installed cameras and the software suite back in September, using $1.4 million of the $4.2 million funding it received through the New York Smart Schools Bond Act. Funding provided through the Bond Act is supposed to go towards instructional tech devices, such as iPads and laptops, but the district clearly had other plans. –Engadget

Syria’s regime claims Israel supports 'terrorists' with airstrikes -analysis

Syria’s government is grasping for an explanation after it says it suffered airstrikes.

After three nights of the Syrian regime claiming it has suffered airstrikes from Israel between May 27 and June 3, Damascus is searching for a scapegoat and an explanation. “The aggression comes in conjunction with the terrorists in Hama and Idlib,” Syria’s SANA reported on Sunday night.

The report notes that air defenses contended with an “Israeli aggression,” somewhere near the T4 airbase on the road from Homes to Palmyra. This is a sensitive site for Syria where Iran has a base. Syria admitted that a warehouse was struck and a soldiers killed.

But Syria’s regime has an explanation. The attack comes at the same time as there are rising tensions in northern Syria between Damascus and Syrian rebel and extremist groups in Idlib. SANA argues that the Syrian Arab Army, the regime’s forces, have liberated villages from “terrorist groups.” In September 2018 Russia and Turkey signed an agreement about Idlib. Turkey, which has forces in Idlib, was supposed to get the extremist groups such as Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham to remove weapons from a buffer zone. But after many months the Syrian government is fed up with the presence of HTS and other groups. It has been seeking to push the rebels and extremists back.

In addition HTS has been launching drone and other harassment attacks against the Syrian regime and the Russian Khmeimim air base near Latakia. “The Israeli enemy has intervened over the past several years to support its collapsing terrorist tools,” SANA claims. It argues that Israel provided support for “terrorists.” This is often a euphemism for the Syrian rebels. Syria’s government retook southern Syria in the summer of 2018. Some Syrian rebel medical workers with the White Helmets were transferred via the Golan to Jordan. Israel provided medical care over the years 2013-2018 for thousands of Syrians. Syria’s regime claims it found “Israeli weapons inside terrorist hideouts.”

The rhetoric from Syria comes after Syrian air defense fired at a plane on a routine flight on May 27 and after rockets fired from Syria were aimed at an area near the Hermon on the night of June 1. Israel says it takes these incidents seriously.

Syrian, Russian Warplanes Carried Out Dozens Of Airstrikes On Militant Positions In Hama, Idlib, Aleppo & Lattakia (Videos)

Warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out more than 135 airstrikes on militant-held areas on June 2, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The UK-based monitoring group said that the airstrikes targeted more than 20 towns in northern Hama, southern Idlib, northern Lattakia and western Aleppo.

Despite these intense airstrikes, the situation on the ground around Idlib remained mostly calm, with no major attacks from both sides.

If Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies cease their attacks in the upcoming few days, Russia and Turkey will likely move to implement a real ceasefire.
