"The victims in Public Utilities included Rich Nettleton with whom I have known and worked with for 30 years. Rich used to work for the City of Norfolk Public Works Department. He later moved to the City of Virginia Beach where he Managed the Design and Construction Bureau. I worked with Rich on several water and sewer design and construction projects through the years. We have had several meeting with Rich concerning DAA’s interest in serving Public Utilities. Rich advised us of how to pursue engineering work with the city. He was a big supporter of several water and wastewater professional societies and recently worked with the Engineering Club of Hampton Roads.

Kate Nixon oversaw the Annual Services Engineering Contracts with VBPU. Aziz and I met with her, Rich and others a few weeks ago concerning their future contract advertisements. Kate was aware of our desire to work with City of VB. She was a mother of 3, the youngest 1 year old. I used to see Kate and her family at church on Sundays.

Bobby Williams was with the City for over 40 years and was going to retire this year. He started in Public Utilities as a Pump Station Operator and moved up to Special Projects Project Manager. He also was instrumental in the development of the City’s efforts to eliminate sewer overflows. I worked with Bobby on several Pump Station evaluations, operations, rehabilitation designs and construction inspection projects over the years. Bobby did not like engineers that acted like they knew more than those operating the Pump Stations. I can say I learned a lot of the “does and don’ts” about pump stations from Bobby."
