Populist Electoral Wins Hit The Establishment Worldwide

Populist groups in Australia, India and the United Kingdom recently racked up decisive election wins.

Pollsters worldwide lost face as the right-wing populists in each nation outperformed their projected gains.

Anti-establishment victories across Europe managed to pull enough seats from the ruling parties to break up the 40-year-old coalition governing the European Parliament.

A string of populist electoral wins in Australia, India and the U.K. are beginning to transform the global political landscape as nations revolt against mass migration, climate change legislation and traditional party establishments.

In recent weeks, several nations have placed anti-establishment groups in power, many of which advocate strict immigration policies and hold nationalist sympathies.

As discontent with the establishment continues to fester across the globe, here are some of the highlights from the biggest developments in the past month.

TRUMP Hits Back Twice as Hard: “Terrible” Mayor Khan Has Done a Terrible Job, A “Stone Cold Loser” – Reminds Me Incompetent Mayor of NYC

President Trump hit back at the “terrible” Mayor Sadiq Khan when landing in London.

President Trump cut loose on the “stone cold loser.”

.@SadiqKhan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me……

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 3, 2019

President Trump then compared Khan to nutty communist Mayor Bill de Blasio in New York City.

….Kahn reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job – only half his height. In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom, and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!

Risk Of Online Accounts Seen As One of Largest Brokerages In World Temporarily Halts Online Trading After “Glitch”

Summary:

  • 'Technical issue' at Fidelity blocks access to online accounts, stops online trading- Fidelity is 3rd largest brokerage by client assets: .7 trillion at the end of 2016- NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank have experienced online banking "issues" in November- Clients left without access to funds & failed payments & little to no recourse- Social media exposing …

Yesterday, customers of Fidelity, the third largest brokerage in the world, found themselves unable to access their online accounts.

The company is responsible for an estimated 8% of total US wealth management. With such a huge responsibility, Fidelity, like most companies, works hard to ensure clients have access to online accounts at all times.

Yet it still happened, reminding investors of the risks posed by digital assets - be they stocks, gold or indeed deposits - held solely through online accounts and platforms - the 'Single point of failure'.

Fidelity is just one of many online "outages" or "glitches" reported by financial institutions in the last year. In Europe, particularly the United Kingdom, banking customers have found themselves regularly facing bank account 'glitches'. It is thanks to social media that some of these even come to the fore, with many organisations keen to sweep them under the carpet.

Investors, savers and, in fact, any user of online services needs to be aware of the risks and how to protect themselves in the case of a sudden 'access denied' message or worse, a prolonged period of not being able to access, trade and or withdraw funds from an online account.

The Weaponization of Feeling ‘Unsafe’

I don’t feel safe,” says a Harvard student in a video.

What threatens her? The dean of her Harvard dormitory, law professor Ronald Sullivan, agreed to be part of accused sexual harasser Harvey Weinstein’s legal defense team.

Sullivan and his wife were deans of the dormitory for years, but no matter. Now the professor is apparently an evil threat.

A group calling itself “Our Harvard Can Do Better” demanded Sullivan be removed from his dean job.

Sullivan is black, but black activists joined the protest, too. On the videotape, one says, “Dean Sullivan told me to my face that I should view his representation of Harvey Weinstein as a good thing because that representation will trickle down to black men like me who constantly face an unjust justice system.”

Seems reasonable to me. But the privileged Harvard students laugh and clap when the protester goes on to say, “F— that!”

Colleges don’t show much courage when pushed by student activists. Harvard administrators removed Sullivan and his wife from the residence hall.

Do the students really “feel unsafe”?

Paris bans smoking in 52 parks and gardens

Smoking has been banned in 52 parks and public gardens in Paris, in a move that, the mayor’s office hopes, will make the city “an even more welcoming capital”.

Anyone found violating the ban, which came into effect on Friday, 31 May, faces a fine of 38 euros.

The new no-smoking zones represent about 10% of the green spaces in Paris. However, the ban does not apply to the city’s biggest parks, popular with picnickers and revellers in the summer.

The level of cigarette smoking is slightly higher in France than in the rest of the European Union, according to EU statistics, and much higher than in most other European countries.

French Health Ministry statistics show that the number of habitual smokers has dropped by 1.6 million since 2016 and now represents 25.4% of the population.

Chinese tech titan Huawei buys Russian facial recognition technology

Chinese telecom giant Huawei has purchased the intellectual property rights to facial recognition systems designed by a Russian developer and manufacturer of high-tech security technology.

Some employees of Moscow-based Vokord will also be transferred to Huawei as part of the $50-million agreement, according to sources close to the deal, as quoted by Vedomosti.

Huawei’s Russian subsidiary, along with Hong Kong-based Huawei Digital Technologies, will reportedly become the owners of the intellectual property rights for Vokord’s patents on face ID technology and equipment. The newly formed firm will reportedly be called Igl Softlab. The Russian unit of the enterprise is expected to own 99.99999 percent of the newly formed company.

Founded in 1999, Vokord designs software and programming solutions based on computer vision and intelligent video processing algorithms. The company focuses on facial recognition, Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR), video analytics and pattern recognition, video processing, and video enhancement. As of 2017, the company’s revenue totaled 113.2 million rubles (US$1.75 million).

The market for intelligent recognition systems has recently become a highly attractive sphere for investments, mergers, and takeovers. Earlier this year, London-based retail execution monitoring service BeMyEye announced plans to acquire Russian crowdsourcing and image recognition provider Streetbee. In April, Russian state-run Sberbank agreed to acquire a 51-percent stake in Speech Technology Center (STC) from Gazprombank.

AG Barr blasts ‘mainstream’ media for enabling ‘Spygate’ scandal: ‘They’re supposed to be watchdogs’

If anyone currently working for and on behalf of the Trump administration has an expert’s grasp of our Constitution, our founding, and what sort of country our founders bequeathed to their descendants, it’s Attorney General William Barr.

During his multi-faceted interview last week with CBS News, the AG took the Left-wing “mainstream media” to task for failing to properly report on the “Spygate” scandal that, in fact, they helped to enable by serving as conduits for lies, fake news, and phony allegations against a president their friends in the deep state sought to depose.

More specifically, Barr was floored by the fact that the media was uninterested in the origins of the Russia probe — why it started, who started it, and what evidence or events actually initiated it.

“The fact that today people just seem to brush aside that it is okay, you know, to engage in these activities (spying) on a political campaign is stunning to me, especially when the media doesn’t seem to think it’s worth looking into.

“They’re supposed to be, you know, the watchdogs of our civil liberties,” he added.

Three child abuse victims identified by Europol taskforce

Three victims of child sexual abuse have been tentatively identified by Europol’s Victim Identification Taskforce.

One victim is in Europe, one is in the United States, and one is in Russia. Law enforcement in each region are working to finish identifying the victims.

The identifications were a result of Europol’s sixth Victim Identification Taskforce, which took place from 13-24 May at Europol headquarters at The Hague. It brought together 34 victim identification experts from 24 countries and 29 agencies.

Europol functions as the European Union’s law enforcement agency and assists EU member states combatting terrorism, cybercrime and other forms of organized crime.

Taskforce participants uploaded 466 new datasets, which include images and video files, to the International Child Sexual Exploitation Database and added more than 280 additions to existing datasets, all of which Europol says increases the chances of victims being identified.

IRS Becoming Big Brother With $99-Million Supercomputer

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is building a $99-million supercomputer that will give the agency the “unprecedented ability to track the lives and transactions of tens of millions of American citizens,” tax expert Daniel Pilla reports.

The IRS is already dangerous enough, notes Pilla. “The IRS lays claim to your data without court authority more so than any other government agency. And to make matters worse, they share the data with any other federal, state or local government agency claiming an interest, including foreign governments.”

The IRS already receives billions of tax documents annually, and the amount of information the agency receives continues to grow. According to the IRS’ 2018 – 2022 Strategic Plan, the agency’s data volume increased a hundredfold between 2007 and 2017, while the number of users with access to that data grew by a factor of 23.

But that’s not enough for the IRS, which states in its Strategic Plan that it wants “to increase its access to data, and use that data more effectively to drive its agency-wide decision making, as well as case evaluations and selections for enforcement purposes,” pens Pilla. Thus, the agency is investing $99 million in a contract with Palantir Technologies of Palo Alto, California, to provide hardware, software, and training to “capture, curate, store, search, share, transfer, perform deconfliction, analyze and visualize large amounts of disparate structured and unstructured data.”

Byron York: Law enforcement, media changed standards for Trump

One of the more unfortunate effects of the Trump-Russia investigation — and there have been many — is the weakening of traditional standards of argument and proof in the public debate over allegations that the Trump campaign conspired with Russia to fix the 2016 election. (Just for the record: It didn't.)

In particular, angry disputes about the president have done terrible harm to the principle that an investigator, be it a journalist or a prosecutor, should meet at least some standard of proof before leveling an accusation.

Two examples. First is the so-called Steele dossier, the collection of wild allegations against Trump compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele on behalf of the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Steele's unfounded accusations — that there was a years-long "well-developed conspiracy" between Trump and Russia, that Trump accepted "a regular flow of intelligence from the Kremlin," and that Russian spies taped Trump watching prostitutes perform a kinky sex act in a Moscow hotel room in 2013 — circulated throughout law enforcement and political circles starting in the summer of 2016. That just happened to be the time the Clinton campaign and some in the media began accusing Trump of "colluding" with Russia to gain an advantage in the election.

Top Clinton staff received updates on Steele's material. Then, they accused Trump of collusion. FBI investigators, who also had the dossier, were trying to confirm it. They failed.

Without evidence to prove any of the dossier's most serious allegations, a new standard of proof emerged: The allegations were legitimate because they had not been proven untrue.

Swedish court rejects request to detain Assange in absence over rape allegation

A Swedish court has struck down a prosecutor’s request to detain Julian Assange in absentia over outstanding rape allegations. The case was re-opened after the Wikileaks founder was hauled from London’s Ecuadorian embassy.

he ruling was handed down Monday by a judge in court in Uppsala, north of Stockholm.

Swedish prosecutors reopened the rape case earlier this month, soon after Assange was jailed for skipping a 2012 bail hearing. Assange requested Monday’s hearing be postponed, citing ill health, but the request was denied.

Detaining Assange in absence would have allowed Sweden to issue an arrest warrant on him, but for now the European warrant already issued will have to suffice for the investigators, the Swedish judge said.

Assange was arrested in mid-April after spending over six years under political asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

Far-right Vlaams Belang invited to second round of talks to form Flemish government

After four days of only informal contacts, N-VA party leader Bart De Wever will start a second round of consultations on Monday in order to form a new Flemish government.

Most parties received an invitation for a second consultation with De Wever, including the far-right Vlaams Belang, which means De Wever has not decided yet on whether or not he will adhere to the cordon sanitaire that was put in place to keep the Vlaams Belang out of the government. The negotiations will take place during the first week of June, but when exactly that will be, has not yet been communicated to the press.

For the formation of the Federal government, the king appointed two advisors who have the task of forming a government that works for both Flanders, which mostly voted for rightwing parties, and Wallonia, which voted mostly for leftwing parties. Flemish Johan Vande Lanotte (SP.A) and Walloon Didier Reynders (MR) have started their consultations with the candidate parties far away from the media. They will not communicate about any progress before Thursday.

Gang Members Implicate U.S. Gov’t in Dumping Crates of Guns in Chicago

There is a well-documented history of the U.S. government supplying weapons and arms to both friends and foe for political purposes and for profit. In addition to publicly known global arms deals to U.S. political allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia, revelations about the rise of ISIS indicate that U.S. arms and military trainees have been a critical factor in the rise of the terror group.

From 2006 to 2011 the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms ran a gun smuggling operation into Mexico to ostensibly dismantle Mexican drug gangs, accomplishing the precise opposite, however, in what has affectionately become known as Fast and Furious. Further back in time we have covert operations like Oliver North’s Iran Contra scandal of the mid 1980s, and America’s involvement in arming rebels in Central America to destabilize uncooperative governments. The list goes on.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the CIA, DEA and other government agencies have been involved for decades in the destruction of American communities by covertly shipping in drugs. Former DEA agent Cele Castillo has been persecuted by the U.S. government for seeking accountability of the George H.W. Bush administration for drug smuggling into the U.S. He would know as he was directly involved.

Former L.A. police narcotics officer Michael Ruppert alleged in the mid-1990s that the CIA was directly involved in running drugs throughout the Unites States, corroborating information presented in the book, Dark Alliance, by investigative journalist Gary Webb whose death in 1994 by two gunshot wounds to the head was deemed a suicide. Michael Ruppert committed suicide in 2014.

“I will tell you, Director Deutch,” Ruppert said, “emphatically and without equivocation that the agency has dealt drugs throughout this country for a long time.” ~Mike Ruppert

‘Freeway’ Ricky Ross was California’s most successful drug kingpin during the explosion of the crack epidemic in the 1980s, and later implicated the CIA as the source for cocaine. Presidents Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton are all implicated in the revelations of drug-running in the U.S. during the ’80s an ’90s in Mena, Arkansas, which also links the Arkansas State Police to smuggling, culminating in the suspicious murder of Vince Foster.

Again, the list goes on and on; however, with the recent rise of violence in Chicago involving over 3000 shooting victims in 2016 so far (January 1st to September 13th), it appears that another case of U.S. sponsored gun-smuggling and intentional destruction of inner-city communities may be at play.

Kremlin is not commenting on alleged Russian troop withdrawal from Venezuela

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has declined to comment on a Wall Street Journal article claiming that Russia is withdrawing its military advisers from Venezuela.

“You are asking the wrong party. You should ask the companies that maintain the equipment provided to Venezuela earlier,” he told reporters.

At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman pointed out that the information “has already been rejected by Russia’s side.”

The Wall Street Journal claimed earlier that over the past few months, Russia’s Rostec State Corporation, responsible for training Venezuelan military personnel and providing consultations on weapons supply contacts, reduced the number of its advisers from about a thousand to several dozen.

The newspaper added that the pullout was due to a lack of new contracts and the fact that the Maduro government was no longer capable of paying for the corporation’s services.

Closer Everyday

Amazon Installing Alexa in Apartments and Hotel Rooms. They Say 24/7 Data Collection Will Help Property Managers Better Manage and Serve Tenants.

More creepy “Surveillance Capitalism” courtesy of Amazon who isn’t hiding that it is putting millions of smart speakers in homes and hotels by “offering discounted hardware, customized software and new ways for property managers to harvest and use data.”

Are there actually people willing to pay for this type of arrangement?

From the Wall Street Journal, “Amazon’s Plan to Move In to Your Next Apartment Before You Do.”

For Amazon, the appeal is obvious: Adding millions of new users to its services and gaining access to data like their voice-based wish lists and Alexa-powered shopping habits will put it further ahead of the competition which, at the moment, doesn’t have a significant presence in rental properties and new-home construction.

‘We can predict if residents are happy based on their digital interactions.’

Here’s what they have to say about privacy:

And there’s a question of privacy: Renters, home buyers and hotel guests are all surrendering more data as a result of these innovations, and may not be aware of all the parties monitoring their smart-home interactions.

Consenting to this data-surrending may be hidden somewhere in the contract’s fine print that most don’t read or don’t understand.

According to the article, Google is also interested in doing this kind of thing in homes too. Why the heck not, right?

In the meantime, Amazon is also planning to “push” its surveillance and data collection devices in other places too – including public places:

Syrian military seizes US-made missiles in southern Syria

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – The Syrian military seized a large cache of weapons that were left behind by the rebel forces in Syria’s southern region over the weekend.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Syrian military seized the weapons cache inside the areas previously controlled by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their allies in the Dara’a Governorate.
