I've read and re-read his entire set at least a half a dozen times over the last 15 years Fascinating read. My people don't realize that he was at the brink of bankruptcy for quite a while before and after accepting the PM. He would stay up very late and walk around "Chartwell" until the wee hours, naked as the day he was born and write "pot-boilers" for magazines to make his estate's monthly nut. When his friends and foes alike learned that the man who was single-handedly fending off Hitlter was doing this, they set up a blind trust (behind his back, with "private" backers), and then only told his after it was a fait accompli. They were all horrified that Churchill was "moonlighting" to make the ends meet.
