The real issue is that they ultimately don't care about that. It's called the "cable paradox".

 

The more people that cut TV service, the lower their costs since they pay for less content. They then go to usage-based pricing for broadband services and the consumer has to buy all their content online plus pay for the internet service. It will be more expensive to the consumer in the end. The broadband bill will still be in the 200 range (YMMV) and you'll be paying 9.99 for every programming bundle you want.
