The Senate passed legislation last night that would DETER anyone from meddling in a U.S. election from being able to enter the United States. Literally, the DETER Act stands for Defending Elections against Trolls from Enemy Regimes Act.

The bipartisan bill was spearheaded by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and passed the Senate by unanimous consent. After the committee’s vote Graham said in a statement:

As we saw in the 2016 elections, Vladimir Putin’s Russia is attempting to strike at the very heart of the democratic values, freedoms, and liberty all Americans hold dear. By barring foreigners who improperly interfere in our elections from coming to the United States, the DETER Act sends a message to hostile nations across the world that the United States will not tolerate foreign interference in our elections.

No doubt the move comes after the Mueller report and his recent press conference, speaking publicly on the matter for the first, and supposed last, time in over two years. Lawmakers have since tried to make strides towards election security and in time to put measures in place before the upcoming 2020 presidential election. The Hill reports the bill “would block individuals from being able to obtain a visa if they were attempting to or had engaged in ‘improper interference in U.S. elections.’

According to the legislation, that would include violating voting or campaign finance laws or trying to interfere in elections or a campaign while under the direction of a foreign government.” Democrats and Republicans seem to agree that there should NOT be meddling in our elections; now let’s see if they can agree on the parameters of meddling. The devil’s in the details.

At least one Londoner — besides the queen — has rolled out the red carpet for President Trump.

Damien Smyth has renamed his West London pub “The Trump Arms” for this week and refitted it with American- and Trump-themed decorations including a sign reading “Welcome our American Friends.”

“This is an incredible man, you know, and we have to show the American people and the president that he’s a tremendous operator and a great man for his country and for the world,” Mr. Smyth told Fox Business Network in an interview Tuesday.

Mr. Smyth told Fox host Stuart Varney that the move has “absolutely” helped business and when asked about protesters said they were “not really” a problem.

“We have had tremendous business from local supporters and visiting tourists as well,” he said, noting that he has used social-media to spread the word and had made a similar move last year during a less pomp-heavy visit by Mr. Trump.

The renamed “Trump Arms” is just a temporary move though and will be undone and revert back to “The Jameson” when Mr. Trump leaves, Mr. Smyth said, though for reasons many an entrepreneur or former real-estate mogul would understand.

A permanent name change would “have to go through the council and a big rigmarole,” he said.

Republican lawmakers have reportedly warned the Trump administration that they will block the president’s Mexico tariffs.

Senate Republicans have reportedly talked with White House officials and advised them that the are prepared to block his plan to impose a tariff on Mexican imports. The plan threatens to raise the tariffs as high as 25%.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also told reporters the party spent “almost our entire lunch” going back and forth with the administration and warned afterward “there is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that’s for sure.”

“When it comes to applying a tariff to Mexico, I for one would not support that. I do not favor tariffs being applied to friends like Mexico,” said Sen. Mitt Romney, “If there’s a vote I think it’s a very difficult vote for those of us who oppose tariffs. I would not be inclined to vote [for] a tariff against a friend.”

A heavy police presence has been reported near the Del Amo Mall in Torrance, California.

The reports come a day after a shooting at the mall, for which a suspect still has not been taken into custody. It is unclear if the police presence is related to yesterday’s incident.

Traffic is being redirected around the street closure and drivers should expect delays.

Monday on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was asked by host Sean Hannity about the standard of justice in the United States as President Donald Trump, and some of his associates were investigated during a two-year-long Department of Justice special counsel probe, but his 2016 presidential election opponent Hillary Clinton got no scrutiny.

The South Carolina Republican attributed it to those conducting the investigation, primarily the FBI, wanting Clinton to win the 2016 election as to why there was no prosecution.

“I think the decision not to prosecute her was probably most likely politically motivated, because obstruction of justice, taking a hammer to two phones being asked for as evidence, cleaning a server, bleaching it out so you can’t get the emails is classic obstruction of justice,” Graham said. “Compromising classified information and she clearly did that, the decision not to prosecute her was pretty simple, in my view. If you want her to win, you can’t prosecute her.”
