Was admiring the photos of POTUS and FLOTUS in the beautiful Winfield House taken at the dinner tonight. The decor is completely perfect. Decided to look into the history of the property:
There have been structures on the property since about 1825, when it was part of a development by John Nash.
Owners over time included the 3rd Marquess of Hertford, KG and the American financier Otto Kahn, and Viscount Rothermere, the publisher of the Daily Mail.
After a fire in 1936, it was purchased by heiress Barbara Woolworth Hutton (who had 7 husbands incl 2 princes and Cary Grant)
Barbara was a niece by marriage of Marjorie Merriweather Post
Marjorie built Mar-a-Lago in 1924, and willed it to the U.S. Government in 1973.
All that to say, tonight's dinner venue for POTUS had a fairly close connection to his Florida home. He looked as though he was having a very nice time.
Didn't Theresa May looked relaxed– relieved, even? Almost as much as her hubby :)
