Mexico Hopes to Prevent Trump-Proposed Tariffs in Eleventh-Hour Talks

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - Mexican officials will meet with senior Trump administration officials on Wednesday in an attempt to convince Washington to forgo plans to impose a 5 percent tariff on Mexican goods to force the government in Mexico City to stop the flow of migrants from Central America into the United States.

The talks, hosted by US Vice President Mike Pence, will include Secretary of State Mike Pence and several other high-ranking Trump administration officials, according to public schedules published on Wednesday.

Russian jet intercepts US military plane in eastern Mediterranean

BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force intercepted a U.S. military plane in the eastern Mediterranean on three separate occasions on June 4th, the U.S.’ 6th Fleet reported.

“On June 4, 2019, a U.S. P-8A Poseidon aircraft flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean Sea was intercepted by a Russian SU-35 three times over the course of 175 minutes. The first and third interaction were deemed safe. The second interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-35 conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, which put our pilots and crew at risk. The crew of the P-8A reported wake turbulence following the second interaction. The duration of the intercept was approximately 28 minutes,” the 6th Fleet claimed.

The 6th Fleet slammed the Russian Air Force’s interception, calling the move ‘irresponsible’.

“While the Russian aircraft was operating in international airspace, this interaction was irresponsible. We expect them to behave within international standards set to ensure safety and to prevent incidents, including the 1972 Agreement for the Prevention of Incidents On and Over the High Seas (INCSEA). Unsafe actions‎ increase the risk of miscalculation and potential for midair collisions.”

New satellite image reveals destruction of T-4 Airbase after Israeli attack

EIRUT, LEBANON (12:10 A.M.) – The Israeli Air Force recently launched a heavy attack on the T-4 Airbase this past weekend, targeting a small installation inside this strategic site in eastern Homs.

The Israel-based Image Satellite International released two satellite photos of the T-4 Airbase, showing the before-and-after images of the installation after Sunday’s attack.

AfD demands Hizbollah ban in Germany

The largest German opposition party AfD (Alternative for Germany) is introducing a bill to ban radical Islamic terror organization Hizbollah in Germany this Thursday. Vice AfD faction speaker Beatrix von Storch presented the bill at a press conference today in the German Bundestag.

The EU has classified Hizbollah as a terrorist organization. Hizbollah is also outlawed in the United States, UK, Canada, Netherlands, Japan and Israel. In Germany, however, Hizbollah maintains its main foreign bank account with the city-owned Municipal Bank of Bremen, approx. 950 Hizbollah activists collect donations for the terror group in Germany, as Jerusalem Post reporter Benjamin Weinthal found.

30 Years Since Tiananmen Square: The State of Chinese Censorship and Digital Surveillance

Thirty years ago today, the Chinese Communist Party used military force to suppress a peaceful pro-democracy demonstration by thousands of university students. Hundreds (some estimates go as high as thousands) of innocent protesters were killed. Every year, people around the world come together to mourn and commemorate the fallen; within China, however, things are oddly silent.

The Tiananmen Square protest is one of the most tightly censored topics in China. The Chinese government’s network and social media censorship is more than just pervasive; it’s sloppy, overbroad, inaccurate, and always errs on the side of more takedowns. Every year, the Chinese government ramps up VPN shutdowns, activist arrests, digital surveillance, and social media censorship in anticipation of the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests. This year is no different; and to mark the thirtieth anniversary, the controls have never been tighter.

Heavily Censored by Facebook: Growing List of Articles That Will Never Again Be Allowed on Facebook

Facebook is now using a new trick of shadow-banning my page and website (HumansAreFree.com) / purging my posts from their platform:

Several of my posts have been labeled as "spam" and purged from Facebook entirely. How do I know it's Facebook and not an individual? Because my latests posts that were flagged as spam and removed were "scheduled" posts, hence not yet published!

Since only Facebook can see my scheduled (unpublished) posts, it can only be them. It is random too. As soon I schedule several articles, a couple of them are randomly flagged as spam. What it means is that these articles will never be allowed on Facebook (this applies to both new and older articles).

How is this legal? We need laws to protect the Internet and we need big corporations to respect the existing laws that protect the freedom of speech, or pay the price.

Surviving Tiananmen: The Price Of Dissent In China

“Young lovers from China!” a smiling sales lady said as she approached Yu Dongyue and me in a mall on a rainy afternoon in February. It took me a moment to realize that Yu could be taken as an ordinary man with a girlfriend. Yu’s hat covered the scar that he received from brutal beatings. No one could have guessed that he was suffering from severe trauma and mental disorders after 16 years of incarceration marked by torture and solitary confinement as a political prisoner in China.

I had long featured Yu’s story in my courses on Tiananmen and China, but I’d met him for the first time that day in Indianapolis, where he and his sister settled after escaping China in 2009. In spring 1989, when millions of citizens filled the streets all over China demanding political reforms, Yu was a 21-year-old art editor for the Liuyang Daily, a newspaper in Hunan province. The city of Liuyang also happened to be the hometown of Hu Yaobang, the former secretary general of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), whose sudden death on April 15, 1989 triggered a nationwide campaign that would become known as the 1989 Tiananmen Movement.

Hu was a proponent of reform, and students saw his passing as an opportunity to renew their push for change. After students launched a hunger strike in Tiananmen Square, Yu Dongyue and two friends, Yu Zhijian and Lu Decheng, traveled to Beijing to join the protests. Boarding the train, the three men, who would become known in Chinese as the Three Gentlemen of Tiananmen, could not have known it would be a one-way trip.

On May 23, 1989, Yu and his two friends threw eggshells filled with paint at Mao’s portrait in Tiananmen Square. Instead of applauding their audacity, the students turned them over to the authorities.

Facebook’s new public policy manager for Ukraine is a nationalist hawk who volunteered with fascist party during US-backed coup

When Facebook hired a new public policy manager for Ukraine, the mega-corporation chose one of the most biased candidates possible: a hawkish jingoist who has worked extensively with the Ukrainian government and the European Union.

Kateryna Kruk, who has served as Facebook’s public policy manager for Ukraine since late May, was an active participant in Ukraine’s 2014 US-backed coup, in which far-right ultra-nationalists violently ousted a democratically elected pro-Russian government and replaced it with a pro-NATO one.

During the coup, Kruk signed up with the fascistic Svoboda party, and defended the extreme-right group from criticism. She is a nationalist hardliner who compares Russian President Vladimir Putin to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, reduces all pro-Russian forces in Ukraine to “terrorists,” and opposes any kind of negotiations with Moscow.

Facebook’s new public policy manager for Ukraine publicly cheered when Turkey shot down a Russian plane, has called for martial law, and claims that Russians are incapable of keeping promises. She has even gone so far as to refer to the Kremlin as a “terrorist organization.”

An investigation by The Grayzone found that Kateryna Kruk said she “thanked” and “blessed” a boy who joined the Ukrainian neo-Nazi militia known as the Azov Battalion. She also gloated over fascist violence against Ukrainian communist politicians, and repeatedly called for the Communist Party of Ukraine to be banned.

The fact that someone with these extreme political views will be policing content for Facebook is already troubling, and raises concerns about whether she will censor sources that she disagrees with. But Kruk’s recent work history presents even more questions about bias and potential conflicts of interest.

Mexican Cartels Among Greatest Criminal, National Security, Public Health Threat to U.S.

Mexican drug cartels have headquarters throughout the United States and are one of the country’s greatest criminal, national security and public health threats, according to a veteran Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) senior agent pushing the federal government to designate them as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO).

“The Mexican cartels have left a trail of blood using intimidation and terrorist acts of ruthless violence,” said Derek S. Maltz, a narco-terror expert who helped establish the Counter Narco-Terrorism Operations Center (CNTOC) before retiring from the DEA. The CNTOC has busted many bigtime narco-terrorism operations, including a money laundering scheme that supported the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah.

“The cartels engage in beheadings, car bombings, dissolving humans in acid, mass murders, torture, bombings and political assassinations,” Maltz said. “Their actions are consistent with the behaviors of traditional terrorists and they have infiltrated the highest levels of the Mexican government with bribes and corruption.” The former DEA agent added that “Mexican drug cartels have utilized techniques which focus on mind manipulation and behavioral modification commonly utilized by organizations such as Al-Qaeda.

The troubling details were delivered during recent testimony before the Ohio legislature, where Maltz made a powerful case for designating Mexican drug cartels as FTOs. Following a massive bust of the notorious Sinaloa Cartel in the Buckeye State, a resolution was introduced to get the federal government to make the change so that it may use “appropriate means to mitigate and eventually eliminate the operations of the cartels.”

Last week a criminal justice committee heard testimony as the resolution advances in the Ohio legislature. Maltz was a key expert witness, telling the panel that cartels “have major hubs in Southern California, Arizona, Chicago, Texas, New York and Atlanta” and have “expanded into South Florida.”

The resolution states that Transitional Criminal Organizations (TCO) based in Mexico (drug cartels) are responsible for the flow of opioids across the border into the United States and Ohio and that they are also responsible for the proliferation of human trafficking in the United States, particularly Ohio, as part and parcel of their drug trafficking operations.
